Assault on Gafflynder [Closed]

A pained expression crossed Hira's face as she looked out over the small battlegroup she had pulled together. Expectant faces and expressions turned upwards, waiting for her words of command and inspiration. Out across the horizon a large base rested atop a hill, it's walls beckoning any attacker. By the morn of tomorrow, I probably won't see half of these faces ever again. The dragoness thinks to herself as she pulls herself together. "Friends! Family! Mercenaries for hire! You all have gathered here under my beck and call and for that I thank you. You have all heard the risks of what we are about to endeavor to do. I will not blame you if you turn your back and go home. However! Know this! If we win today - and we will win - we will have overcome a great enemy!" She announces, her speech picking up it's pace. "Will you fight? Or will you lie down and die? We are here for only one thing! WE ARE HERE TO DEFEAT GAFFLYNDER!" She yells as a loud yell of approval rolls through the battlegroup.

Jacob stared at the base in the distance, his face stony. He held Jernulv in his right hand, gripping close to the axe head. He'd donned a few piecemeal armour segments, fastening them over his jacket with leather straps. He bared his teeth and growled, as if the inhabitants of the Gafflynder building could hear him.

With a flourish, the dragoness drew her weapon and extended it, thrusting it into the air. "ONWARD WE MARCH! OUR BLADES SHALL BE THE ONES TO PIERCE THEIR HEARTS!" She shouts before shifting her armor around her. "Jacob, let us go."

Jacob slung Jernulv onto his back and walked over to Hira
"Remove your helmet" he requested.

Reaching up, Hira unlocked the helmet with a slight hiss of disconnecting hydraulics. She lifts the helmet off her head, propping it under one arm. "Yes?"

Jacob reached forwards and tugged Hira into a kiss.

Hira's eyes go wide in surprise as her heart rate quickens, the boom of artillery beginning behind them.

After a few moments Jacob drew back, releasing his grip on Hira
"Just in case" he muttered solemnly, feeling the need to justify his actions.

The dragoness nods quietly, quickly putting her helmet on to hide her blush. In the distance, three giant metal humanoids rise out of the compound. "Here we go..." She mutters, her shoulders slumping slightly.

Jacob twirled Jernulv and glared at the three inbounds
"I'll take the one in the middle" he grunted, limbering up and preparing to charge.

Hira nodded and jumped off the side of the small firebase, landing in the soft earth with a quiet fwump. She unfolds Mitigator with a small grinding of metal before charging the mech on the right, her size quickly dwarfed by the mechanical monstrosity.

Jacob howled before thundering towards his target. The Mech lifted its huge Gatling gun and opened fire, filling the air with white hot slugs. With a grunt Jacob twirled Jernulv, deflecting three heading his way. His pace slowed as the field of fire thickened. The high Caliber shells pinged off of the ancient axe, the wielder's arms now little more than blurs as Jacob brought his new skills to bear.

Heavy shells were deflected out of their path of trajectory by Mitigator, the large shield protecting Hira's body as she rushed the first mech. A low rumble began in her throat before she spun and chopped into the hydraulics at the back of the leg.

Jacob spun on his heel, knocking more bullets out of the air. He snarled and took a few steps forward. Seeing that its attacks were ineffective, the metal beast raised one of its shoulder mounted missile racks, unleashing a small salvo. The explosives corkscrewed through the air before detonating at Jacob's feet. With a feral roar, the wolf leaped through the smoke, Jernulv raised above his head. Jacob brought the axe down on the cockpit, cleaving a large gap in the armour before tearing through further still. The pilot was just out of the blade's reach. With a swipe of its plated fist it knocked Jacob clear. He landed on his feet and charged his blade with ice, twisting the haft sharply. He then slammed the blade into the mech's thigh, causing an explosion of icicles to sprout from the armour.

After bringing the mech to it's knees, Hira fired her integrated shotgun directly into the reactor housing, breaching the casing. She runs towards the final mech as the first one explodes. This is easier than I thought.

Jacob spun the axe before smashing through the weakened armour with the flat of the blade. With a grunt he re angled the weapon and hacked clean through the cockpit. Blood sprayed across his face as the blade met its mark. He threw his head back and howled, then the third mech hit him. The beast punched straight downwards, slamming the wolf into the ground before he could finish the battle cry. Jacob forced himself onto his knees, aura blinking feebly
"Bad move" he snarled.

Hira flew through the air towards the Mech, slamming Convergence into the armor plating covering the cockpit. A loud wrenching of metal is heard as the dragoness pulls her polearm from the machine, jumping to the ground in the process. Her eyes widen under her helmet as she heards the sound of a chainblade deploying, the scream of the engine piercing the air as the metal monstrosity swung it's arm. Hira jumped over the first swipe, then rolled to the side to avoid a downstroke. As she turned to counter attack, the giant sword caught her in the left knee, a spray of blood spattering across the ground as a shriek of pain lances through the air.

"HIRA!" Jacob fought back the pain, he dived across the ground to stand over the wounded dragon. The mech lined up for another swing "Don't you touch her!" Jacob snarled. The beast advanced and brought the chainblade down with earth shattering force. The whirring teeth met Jernulv's haft and Jacob grimaced as he fought against the mech's immense strength. The battle quickly began to tilt in the iron beast's favour and Jacob found his strength faltering. He gritted his teeth and pushed back, tilting the haft and shoving the axe to one side. With an enraged roar he switched the axe to shotgun form and fired. Once. Twice. Three times. Each shot caused ice to spread through the vehicle's joints, icing up the servos and slowing its movements. It paused mid swing, the teeth still shrieking above Jacob's head. With a grunt he hurled Jernulf clean through the cockpit, slicing the pilot in two and halting the beast. As soon as Jernulv had left Jacob's grip, Hira entered it as he fell on his knees and supported her head his lifted his head to the sky "MEDIC!"

Hira's eyes blurred under the helmet as she writhed from the pain, her breath coming in ragged gasps.

Kokkino heard the call for medic and immediately leaped out of the artillery tractor she had been occupying, a medkit in her hands as she zigzagged across the battleground.

"Stay with me" Jacob ordered, tugging off her helmet and propping her up slightly, clinging to her.

The blademaster slides in next to them, ripping open the medpack. Her visible eye widens as she sees the damage. "I won't be able to recover her leg. It has to be removed." Kokkino orders with surprising authority.

Jacob seized Kokkino's wrist as she reached for the tools inside the medpack.
"If she dies" he growled, cautioning her.

Kokkino carefully extracts her wrist from his grip. "Hira is strong. She will recover." She says as she pulls out a few scalpels and a few rolls of bandages. "However she will need a bionic leg."

Jacob wasn't listening, Kokkino's words came to him as if his head was submerged in water. All he could hear was his own breathing and his heart, pounding in his chest. The Gafflynder building still needed taking. For their own sake Jacob hoped they had something bigger and tougher than a mech to hold him back. Because now they'd hurt his pack, and he was going to tear them apart with his bare hands, piece by piece for what they'd done to Hira.

Hira quickly passed out as Kokkino was operating on her leg, the pain forcing her into sweet oblivion.

The instant Kokkino managed to remove the mangled metal from Hira's leg she started to bind the bloody stump, her brow furrowed in concentration.
