Why are there so many closed threads around here? I mean, it's to the point where I make an open thread and everyone's all like 'm-my mom told m-me that I-I-I should not t-talk to strangers...'

People prefer threads that don't go chaotic. When 7 people are posting different reactions in the same minute the thread gets confusing. It just makes for bad story, plus people don't want to end up in the same thread as someone who they argue with a lot. Just a few reasons.

If two characters are getting married, you don't want a crew of pirates to suddenly show up and ruin everything, do you?

I've noticed this as well. One reason is that when there's a limited amount of open threads, they can get out of hand, as stated above. Sadly the only real option is to have more open threads. If you make some, it might get others to do it too. In theory, at least. Heh.

Yeah, but I'd expect at least one person to take the opportunity. Y'can't really have a pirate wedding if you aren't even having the wedding to begin with. I'm starting to think I should just pick a random person and PM them asking, "I'm so bored, won't you cause a ripple in the waveless pond-that is my RPing social life? ;-;" And then add a picture of an adorable kitten, begging for something.

To answer your last question. Yes, they take place at different times. Also, it isn't a pirate wedding. It was just a regular wedding, but someone wanted to take their pirate crew to crash it.

The other thing is that a lot of RPe'rs know each other in real life. If five of my friends weren't active on this site I know that I'd have a lot more to do with open threads, but as it is I don't really need to.

I know 0 people on here in real life, and that is the same for a lot more people. Some people might have 1 or 2 friends who they joined on here with, but in reality in this site you are the exception rather than the rule.

I'm not saying it's everybody's reason, just that it's mine. Besides, I wouldn't say that I'm the exception. Knowing five others might be unusual, but having one or two friends on the site is fairly common. The other thing is that a lot of people prefer to act within a specific group of users that work together on a regular basis, rather than with anyone they come across. Even if they don't know people in real life, they tend to gravitate towards users they are used to RP'ing with.

That part I'd agree with. I tend to mostly RP with the people who have been here since the first couple months. The usual exception being if I'm on a new team.

I don't know anyone here either. While all my closed stuff has been with older people, that's because I've RPed with them and it makes sense to be able to have closed threads with them. That said, I am searching for ideas on how to increase places that new players can join in and I am open to suggestions if you have any.

Well, when Sanctuary (the city we're working on) is up and running we'll be pretty much begging for open threads, and if none turn up creating our own, in order to get some real activity in it. The main problem is that, because of how far it is from Vale, people will need either some kind of long distance transport to get there or an entirely new character. That's been our main issue with it from the outset.

Travel is fast and cheap as far as I'm concerned. Plus, a lot of people do have characters that are unlocked location wise. So it might work out.

That's basically what we're relying on. If it doesn't work, we might have to edit it so that some passenger jet or other makes frequent trips between the two places.

I myself only have a couple RP friends and none are on here. I also like to RP with people that I never done it with before so I tend to look for open threads.
I have three characters in mind and each of them are hunters. Each a connection to Schwartz, Rouge, and Davidson. I suppose I could have one start there on an assignment in the area of Sanctuary with other hunters but they wouldn't live there.

To decide whether you really want a character in Sanctuary really comes down to how well they'd fit the place. It's ultra-nasty and ultra-gritty, the perfect place for a villain or a vigilante, so long as they're willing to kill. It's not really the place a typical hunter would normally be found, but it would work if you could think of a legitimate reason they'd be in such a harsh place. It should be up within a day so I guess you can decide when you've read the (stupidly long, even by my standards) full description.

Yep, I'm not sure how willing Vale would be to send a squad of Hunters there and Spencer wouldn't go there for free bounty hunting.
What he might do is wait outside of a transport dock from there to Vale and look for suspicious characters while remaining incognito due to the fact that anyone coming from there probably doesn't know of him.

Given the nature of Sanctuary, pretty much everyone is going to be suspicious. The honest people will be slaving away in the factories, so the remaining multitudes are likely to be pickpockets, muggers, gangsters, and religious fanatics. It's the kind of place where the innocent don't really last all that long.

Also, people seem to forget that invite only exists and just put threads as closed. We should encourage invite only threads as these don't get swamped, but bored people can ask to join them. I too am quite disappointed by the amount of closed threads on here, the most I've seen on any roleplay site now I think of it.

Umm... I'm fairly sure that we weren't keeping it as a secret. That would have been pretty counterproductive because the less people know about it the less people have the opportunity to be active in it. Also, you can't really keep it a secret when you have to create a thread for it's existence.

Thought about it and remembered a character I made for a story a while back that would work perfectly for Sanctuary.

Sanctuary is finally up. It's a lot later than the deadline I speculated at originally, but take a look at how damn long it is and I think you can find it in yourself to forgive me. I normally have a habit of writing too much, but this has to be a new record.
