Together on the Battlefield [CLOSED]

A sigh could be heard from Rachael as she slowly made her way through the forest of Forever Fall. Normally, she would be sleeping right about now, having just recently gotten out of class. Today was an exception though, as her grade supposedly depended on it. The thought of skipping it had immediately crossed her mind, but Fei had convinced her to go. In fact, they had both gotten issued the assignment of exterminating some noisy Grimm that were being unusually rowdy. They were supposed to be just minor Grimm, such as Beowolves and a few Ursa here and there. Really, they were pathetic foes and Rachael didn't see why they were told to get rid of them. How could they possibly be making such a ruckus that two students were sent out to kill them?

Regardless of the answer, she was now outside in the middle of the afternoon, hunting Grimm. They had been told there was a nest of them somewhere around here, but they hadn't encountered anything except small animals and trees since they got here.

"Fei, remind me why we're doing this again?" she asked, as she had already forgotten despite thinking of it mere seconds ago. It was a stupid reason to waste their afternoon and it made Rachael angry just thinking about it. Although, she could forgive them since Fei was along for the ride.

Rachael sighed once more before she furrowed her brow and said, "If you say so. I just don't want this to take longer than it should, and I think it already has."

Rachael had packed a few things for the trip, just medical supplies and such. She wasn't sure if Fei had brought anything, and was trying not to get her hopes up in case she hadn't. Either way, it's not like it really mattered all that much. Rachael tried to convince herself that it wouldn't take much longer. They had already spent around an hour and a half out here, and they had still got nothing done.

Without looking, she pulled her scroll out from one of the pouches on her belt, flipping it around in her hand before pulling it open. Yeah, the map on it said they were around where they needed to be. In fact they might as well have been right on the dot.

"Yeah, we're here so what's the issue?" she mumbled to herself before closing up her scroll and shoving it back into one of her pouches.

A grumbling sound came from Rachael's general direction, putting her on edge for a moment before realizing it was just her empty stomach. She had forgotten to eat just before this and now it was coming back to bite her.

"Food sounds like a good idea right about now." she said, turning to face Fei. "What did you pack?" she would ask as she tread over to Fei. She hoped for chocolate, and her nose was telling her that something chocolatey was packed. As a response, her tail began to wag and a smile slowly formed on her face. It was evident she knew what was packed, but she asked anyways just to be fair.

Rachael quickly sat on the forest floor next to Fei, her tail wagging as fast as it could. The smell of food in general had piqued her interest, but when the chocolate aroma hit her, she couldn't wait. Greed seemed to overcome her senses, causing her to grab the nearest thing, which was a sandwich and begin eating. Her eyes lit up upon noticing just how much chocolate there was, and her tail would be wagging even more violently if it could. She took a bite of her sandwich, chewing and swallowing it quickly before saying,

"This is good Fei. Thank you."

It didn't take long for her to move on with her sandwich so she could get to the chocolate faster. Of course she'd leave at least half for Fei, as she was the one who brought it, but she still wanted to get to it fast. At this point, she wasn't sure if she was just liked chocolate or if she was addicted to it. It seemed to be the latter, but she didn't care.

Rachael continued to eat her sandwich as she looked over at Fei. "Take whichever you want." she said after swallowing a bit of her food. "You bought all these, you get first picks on drinks I suppose." she said as she took another bite of her sandwich. The promise of chocolate was what helped Rachael keep her smile, despite the fact they were in the middle of nowhere looking for something that didn't exist. But they had to do it, or their grades would drop a notable amount. Whatever, Rachael just wanted to relax for the moment.

It didn't take more than a minute for her to finish her sandwich before she decided to move onto the chocolate. She hesitated for a moment, looking at Fei for a moment with a raised eyebrow. "You sure you don't want any?" she asked, making sure that she didn't take anything Fei wanted.

Rachael closed her eyes, taking in the sweet aroma of the chocolates before quickly grabbing the chocolate bar. She removed any wrappings it had before she began to devour it.

"Thank you Fei." she said. Rachael didn't think she could thank Fei enough for this. What could she say? She was addicted chocolate. As she ate the sweet candy, she couldn't help but let herself shiver as she tasted the ever so sweetness of the chocolate, causing her to shiver visibly.

Rachael continued to devour the chocolates and finished the chocolate bar very quickly. She pulled out a napkin from the box and picked up the cheesecake, ignoring any utensils her companion had brought as she was too eager to eat it. The canine made sure to eat it slowly, as to savor the taste of chocolate. She didn't say much for a minute or so, until a thought crossed her mind. Swallowing the bite she just took, she looked at Fei with a semi-serious expression.

"Not to ruin the mood, but should we begin thinking about what we should be doing next?" she said as she continued to eat and savor the cheesecake.

"They told me there were Grimm we had to kill, but there haven't been any. Maybe..." Rachael stopped for a moment as she looked down in thought. "Maybe they've all started collecting in one spot?" she guessed as she slowly continued eating her cheesecake. She looked up at Fei for a moment, then around them. There was nothing but them and a lot of red trees.

"I guess the fact we haven't seen them should confirm that something is wrong. It's just that we don't know where." she would say as she continued to think of various ideas. The cogs in her brain were starting to turn as she finished the cheesecake and picked up the tea, pouring herself some in the cup-like thermos cap and taking a sip.

"Maybe someone's doing... something that's causing them to panic and flee to one spot. I don't see any other explanation other than, 'some person is doing something that is causing them to act strange'." Rachael would say as she stopped eating and drinking once more to process information. "We shouldn't speculate too much without actual information, otherwise we're just wasting brain power thinking of possibilities rather than actual solutions."

Rachael began taking some of the bite sized chocolates and eating them, once again, slowly so she could savor the taste. "We'll keep looking, wherever they are, I doubt they're far from here." she would say as she continued eating and drinking in the meanwhile.

"Mm, we'll just take our time then. If they only sent two of us then it shouldn't be THAT much of a problem, right?" she would come to say as she watched Fei take one of the sweet chocolates and eat it. Rachael didn't look too miffed, as Fei had bought them (and she didn't want to get sick off of them which she was failing to do), but she notably watched with a little sorrow as the chocolate disappeared into the girl's mouth. She still didn't seem to mind too much afterwards.

A little time passed as the girls finished their food, talking about a few things but nothing too worth of note. It didn't take them too long to pack up before they were on the ready to go again.

"It shouldn't be too far from here. Shall we keep moving then?"

The next half an hour or so was filled mostly with silence, aside from the sounds of leaves and twigs crunching underfoot as the two continued their way into the forest. The time they spent wandering was uneventful, full of nothing, and they didn't even manage to get anything productive done. Not like there was anything productive for them to do anyways, when the things they were trying to find were absolutely nowhere.

"Do you just want to-" Rachael started to say, but she was cut off by a low growling sound. "Are... Are you serious?" she said as she turned towards the source. What she was faced with were several Beowolves, slowly approaching them as they growled. "It took us THIS long to find just a few Beowolves?" she said as she pulled out her sword from her left hip, flipping it into a reverse hold as she looked around them.

They were surrounded by approximately six of the Grimm, and she wasn't sure if she could see anymore trying to sneak up from elsewhere.

"I get three, you get three?" she would say as she looked over at Fei.

Rachael charged the grimm, closing in in just a second or two as the wolves charged back at her. The one closest to the front leaped at her, and Rachael lashed out with a swift punch to its face with her gauntlet. Upon making contact, a flaming fist sized bullet was launched from the gauntlet, sending the grimm flying back from where it came. Another tried to flank her and swiped at her from her right, but the faunus girl simply cut it off with a swing of her sword. The grimm didn't get much time to react, as she quickly flipped her sword into a normal hold and swung once more at the grimm's neck. It fell to the ground, limp and decapitated.

The last one, as well as the one that passed by Fei to try and attack her both leaped at her from behind, both aiming swipes at her. She hardly noticed, and barely had time to turn around and block with her sword, sending her flying back a few meters. Just as she was recovering, they were already read to leap on her once more. Yet a smile still found it's way onto her lips. She stood, crouched down with her gauntlet hand on the ground as the two grimm charged for her, and just before they reached her, she took a big leap back to put as much distance between them as possible. She looked to the ground to see the grenade she had just dropped right at their feet.

And before they could get any closer to Rachael, they exploded. And now it seemed the grimm were dealt with.

A growling sound came from the brush just nearby, and yet more grimm appeared. Still beowolves, nothing else.

"I guess not." she said as she pointed her sword at them, taking a few lazily aimed potshots. She managed to kill one via headshot and maim one or two more, but she wasn't really trying. These grimm were childs play. As Rachael shot at the grimm, she slowly backed towards Fei. They were charging them now, about four more of the things, as Rachael attempted to pick them off before they could get there. "Hm, there still might be more." she said as she got close to Fei, the wolves now within melee range.
