10 years on the clock [Closed]

All the members of their small squad prepare for impact, readying varying methods of landing. Hira does a frontflip and angles her legs downwards while Silfurion does the same, Kokkino just using her thrusters.
Three living missiles impact with the Beacon Courtyard throwing up a cloud of dust. A few screams come from bystanders and some draw their weapons.

Jacob slammed into the ground with a crash, the concrete cracking under the force. The wolf threw his head back and unleashed a deafening howl, before straightening up and brushing off the dust.
"That'll never get old" he grinned, looking at the worried faces of the public.

Hira looks around the courtyard, waving her hand as a few students approach while waving their weapons threateningly. "Oh come now, put those silly pokers away."

Jacob made a lunge at one of the younger ones, brandishing a broadsword. The boy took a few steps, dropping his guard, quickly raising it again as Jacob halted his apparent 'attack' in order to chuckle.

With confident strides, Hira heads towards the landing zone, the other two following. "Come on Jacob, stop aggravating the children."

Jacob raised an eyebrow
"They're making it too easy" he replied, straightening up and stuffing his hands into his pockets, casually sauntering after Hira. "I swear they're jumpier than the lot we went to school with."

The dragoness snorts loudly as they step onto the airfield. "I suppose so."

"maybe we're just scarier than we used to be" he grunted "you especially" he teased.

Hira looks down at the armor still spattered with dried blood. "I did kinda forget to clean the armor off."

Jacob chuckled
"Just tell them you killed something on your way here" he offered, lengthening his stride so that he was walking beside her.

Kokkino jog up and walks backwards in front of them. "We were recalled for defense, right?"

"Yeah" Jacob grunted. He turned to inspect what looked like hard light shields, several hundred feet high, that had been erected around Vale "those are new" he muttered, nudging Hira and nodding in the direction he was looking in, his eyes still fixed on the glowing blue barriers.

The dragoness raises an eyebrow. "Well. Dust shields I believe? Definitely not something I know of. Must be something big to require shields like that."

Jacob nodded in agreement. Ahead of them a small crowd was accumulating, all ex students, organizing themselves around what looked to be a slightly raised platform. A few officious looking men in flakk jackets were overseeing the gathering, each armed with a long broadsword, slung across their backs.

Hira lets out a loud laugh. "Those fire pokers wouldn't hurt a fly!" She exclaims, holding her sides at the laughter.

One of the men turned to Hira, looking more than a little ruffled before turning back to keep an eye on the crowd. On the platform now stood a gaunt man in a thick coat, the stub of a cigar gripped between his teeth as he surveyed the gathering. Jacob wrinkled his nose at the harsh smell of the smoke, curling from the cigar's tip and drifting above the crowd.
"If everyone could be quite for one moment" the man rasped.

Silfurion gives him annoyed look. "I'm sorry, maybe you could use a sound amplifier? I'm not sure I heard how far that steel rod is up yer' arse!"

The man glowered
"Beacons best and brightest my arse" he muttered bitterly, just loud enough for Jacob's wolf ears to detect. The rest of the crowd quietened down a little, after the small chorus of laughter at Silf's comment. "My name is Captain Hearn, I've been given the task of co-ordinating you all in Vale's defense. Thanks to some logistical issues, for the past three months Vale has been short on Hunters and Huntresses, Professor Ozpin was kind enough to grant me access to some of the files from Beacon, specifically yours, so that you could be called here to aid in the defense effort. Was that loud enough for you?" The last part was aimed at Silfurion, as Hearn turned a hard glare on the sniper.

The sniper smirks. "Well, guess I outrank you here. I thought you should know that from looking at my file Captain." He shouts out, his cloak billowing and revealing his Major mark embroidered into the shoulder of his jacket.

Hearn sighed
"Well by all means Mr. Godhammer, brief everyone as to why they've been brought here."

Silfurion shrugs. "As far as I care we were brought here for a barbecue. Go right ahead Captain, I'll stay quiet now."

Hearn sighed
"As I was saying. Vale is currently under siege, for some unknown reason Grimm from miles around have been moving in this direction, we've had incursions within the city for the first time in god knows how long. You're here to bolster our existing defenses. But that's only the crest of this shitstorm" he grunted "recon teams have found a huge number of Grimm moving as one, marching here. They will be here in two days, and if they breach the city walls, there will be nothing left."

Hira sticks her arm in the arm, the mark of the unrelenting gleaming on her shoulder pad. "Sir, if I may so ask, what are the estimated numbers?"

Hearn looked a little uncomfortable
"At this time we are unsure, scans taken by our recon forces aren't able to differentiate heat signatures, but the minimum as far as we can tell is around 25,000" he removed the cigar from between his teeth and waited for the inevitable reaction.

Hira nods and looks at Jacob. "Sounds like something mom would have found fun."

Jacob smirked
"Almost makes me want to unite the clans... but then we'd have to share."

With a grunt of acknowledgement, Hira looks up at the sky. "Yeah... it's going to rain soon."
