The Magician Entertains a Golden Fairy [Closed]

It was a calm weekend morning and the Monarch Dormitory was strangely abandoned. Mirai had sent Rayden on errands and Rider seemed to be doing his own thing. The short, golden-haired princess was kneeling on the dorm room's floor, five books laid out as her eyes shifted to each of them as she read them simultaneously. She let out a small yawn, a crystal tear forming at the edges of her eyes.

Will nothing save me from boredom today? she thought.

At the same time, Caster was taking a stroll along the school near a path lined with trees. He would eventually get back to the dorm room, but now the weather was right and there was something about the energy of the atmosphere. As he walks along, he'll come across a wall in the path that will make him turn back to Beacon proper. He hears the sound of a motor engine and looking behind him, he sees a motorcycle speeding down and charging towards him.

Fortunately, it zipped passed him but the moment it does, it crashes into the wall, making the bike flip over and the man fly into the air. As it does, Caster will look up to see the man mid-air his face staring right at him and his head...tearing off from his neck.

Caster hummed to himself, smiling as he admired the nice day. "Mirai is all cooped up..." he mumbled, moving his left hand over his mouth before hearing a motor behind him.

In a flash there was a motorcycle driving past him and a man flying in the air. Caster was prepared to go help the man upon his landing, until his head became slightly... severed from the rest of his body. "Dear Lord!" Caster jumped, his eyes widening as he watched the sight as he slowly moved back, swallowing. "Oh... Oh my..."

Caster slowly pulled out his scroll, calling Mirai and clearing his throat. "Please pick up." he mumbled, tapping his foot nervously.

Mirai had yawned the second time when she heard the ringtone of her scroll.

She picked it up wiping the tear from her yawn away.

"Mm? Caster what is it? Why are you calling me at such a boring, ungodly hour?"

"Uhm, well... I don't know an easy way to say this..." Caster moved to the head, crouching down and closing the eyes with his fingers. "A motorcycle nearly crashed into me... the driver is dead. One could say that he went so fast that he was... in over his head..."

Standing, he started to pace and move to the motorcycle. "I think it's not the best idea to stay around the body, but it was so random. This seems like something you would be good with. Can you show up? I'll send you my location on the scroll."

Despite herself, Mirai felt a smile form on her lips, her eyes showing intrigue and and excitement. And then, yawning, she turned to the phone, her eyes sharpening as if she could glare at Caster right then and there.

"You know, you should've called the authorities first," Mirai said as she stood up. "Stay there. I'll call them right now and I'll be there as soon as I can. Also...don't touch the scene! Got that?"

It wasn't soon after that a police car stopped by the scene, asking Caster what he witnessed and examining the body. Mirai soon appeared shortly afterwards, wearing a trim black dress, a book in her hand. She turned to Caster.

"So, what exactly did you see? Also, tell me every thought, every action of yours, even the most trivial."

Caster smiled a bit when he saw Mirai, straightening his jacket and nodding. The contrast if her blonde hair falling along the black dress caught his eye for some reason, but he tried to ignore it the best that he could. "Of course, milady." he teased with a bow.

Thinking for a moment, Caster tried to keep the thoughts of Mirai and her blonde hair from his mind as he recalled the previous events. "Well, I will tell you what I told the cops. I was taking a walk, minding my own business, and heard a motor behind me. Thinking that it was a bit odd do to my location I made a one hundred and eighty degree turn to see a man on a motorbike speeding towards me. Fortunately he just missed me and crashed. I was going to go help him but, what do you know, he was in the air feeling a bit detached from reality. Completely severed at the neck."

Caster took a small bow and smiled, watching Mirai closely. "Every last detail I can recall."

Mirai tilted her head.

"You disregarded mentioning what you were thinking," Mirai frowned with her arms crossed, her fan spread out to cool her from the now bright sun. "I want the full conversation that was going on in your mind while you were walking, right until you witnessed the event."

At the same time, Mirai noticed that the police were talking about something. They were in the road where the trees were at the side. One man was holding up a wire that was coiled. The middle of the coil bloodied while so was the tip.

"Oh, my apologizes..." Caster set a hand on his chin and huffed softly, trying to recall his thoughts. "Well, I was just thinking normal thoughts. Magic, adventure, blondes." Caster froze up for a second and laughed nervously. "Wait, the blonde thing was after the event. My apologizes."

Clearing his throat Caster tried to regain his train of thought. "Ah yes, then it went something like 'That's odd, why would someone be riding a vehicle here? It sounds awfully close. Oh my, it's behind me. Wow, that almost hit me! I should help hi- oh too late. Better call Mirai."

Mirai's eyes narrowed even further, the bright green of her eyes trying to pierce into Caster's own.

"Be honest." Mirai snapped. "If you were thinking about blondes before the event, I need to know NOW. Because it could be my only way to crack this thing."

Caster looked into Mirai's green eyes with his own deep blue ones, not phased to much but her glare, but having a nervous chuckle brought out of him. "Well then, let me think." He paused before lifting a finger. "Ah, the thoughts just sparked!'' with that a small spark shot from his finger, making Caster jump. "Whoops!"

Clearing his throat and standing straight, he nodded. "Yes, I was thinking about blondes. Your hair in particular brought it up, and reminded me of it when you arrived." Caster started matter-of-fact-ly. "Apart from that everything I told you was one hundred percent accurate."

Mirai frowned at his last statements. Around the same time, the police came up to Caster.

"I'm sorry young man, but we're gonna have to bring you to the station," one of the officers said.

"Station?" Mirai said as her eyes narrowed down on them. "What for?"

The police turned to see someone else was on the scene.

"What are you doing here? This is a crime scene!" the police retorted.

"I didn't see a police line."

"Why you--"

"Anyways, I believe my friend should be cleared of all suspicion," Mirai said. The police looked at her confused. She jerked at the coiled wire. "That wire has fresh blood on it. As you've probably guessed, the man who'd been killed was murdered using that steel wire. It cut through him. When Caster walked by it probably hadn't been tightened yet so that's why he didn't feel it. Meaning the culprit was still there. Now, Caster's hands are free of blood or cuts even through his gloves. Whoever pulled up the wire's probably has bleeding hands. And..."

She shot a glance at Caster.

"Probably has blonde hair."

The police looked at her as if she were crazy but rubbed his chin.

"Well we did finish questioning you and..." the police looked at Caster's hands. "Your hands are clean. But we're requesting the academy to keep you inside until the case is cleared. That is all. Good day."

With that the police left and went back to the crime scene. Mirai tugged on Caster's sleeve as she yawned.

"Another one solved already. I'm terribly bored again, Caster. Let's get out of here and have something to eat."

Cater's expression made it clear that he was a bit confused on what had happened, offering Mirai his arm and nodding. "If you say so... Why would the culprit be blonde just because I was thinking about blondes?" He asked softly, tilting his head.

"Just walk with me and listen," Mirai said as they headed back towards the school.

"People show a bit of themselves when they commit a crime," Mirai stated. "The culprit had gone through the trouble of tying a wire in the middle of the road and timely waited for the victim to arrive. Why would this be? Most murderers prefer to do things up close. But instead, the culprit used an elaborate method, suggesting perhaps fear of their victim. It could be a child, a frail man or..."

Mirai shifted her eyes to give Caster a glance.

"A woman," she finished. She looked up to the sky and continued fanning herself. "As you were wandering about, your mind suddenly comes to think about blonde hair. Perhaps it's merely coincidence because I'm a teammate, or perhaps...something triggered the thought. Our mind is reactive to things brought upon our senses...our sight. It's very possible that you saw someone with blonde hair. The killer, most likely. So, your little lust for blondes wasn't your own fault, but the fact you saw the killer from the corner of your eye."

Mirai yawned.

"I'm extremely bored now and you must pay the price for me saving you," Mirai said. "Now...what do you plan to do to pay your debt?"

Caster listened carefully, resting his hand on his chin and nodding a bit as Mirai spoke. "I guess that makes sense. It's like... my subconscious? I never really noticed anyone but in the back of my head I had." Though it was a much simpler way of explaining, Caster did seem to understand what Mirai was getting at.

Though in the back of his head it seemed like something was off. Mirai would usually want to investiage this type of thing. Maybe she was just uninterested? Caster shrugged to himself and smiled at Mirai.

"Well, milady, what would you have of me?" he laughed softly with a small bow, smiling cheerily at her. "I am at your service, of course."

Mirai thought for a minute, looking up to the sky and using her free arm to shade her eyes from its brightness.

"Hmm, let's see..." Mirai said. "Ah, yes, let's have a bit of snack, shall we? A tiny treat at the dorm. Rayden bought me a spare box of macaroons. From there, I'll have you do a kabuki dance."

They made their way up to the dorm again, still quite empty and abandoned. Mirai found the box and offered some to Caster before nibbling on a few herself.

"So, Caster, everyone else seems to have had plans today. What are yours?"

Grinning widely, Caster nodded. "Why, more macaroons sounds wonderful! However, I must ask... What's a kabuki dance?" He laughed, smiling and rubbing the back of his neck as he watched Mirai.

Before she answered he added "Also, I don't really have any plans. I was taking my walk and thinking of maybe fooling with some dust, but no real plans. So I am all your for the day." Caster ended with a playful wink, starting to twirl his wand in his pocket.

Mirai merely grinned when Caster asked about the kabuki dance.

"All in good time, Caster," Mirai smirked. And then, to his second set of remarks. "Good. Without Rayden around, I need to have someone to stave off my boredom."

They soon entered the building and it wasn't long before they came across the gymnasium. The door was opened but it was dark once again. As well as empty.

"We never did get to finishing that mystery..." Mirai said. "Do you think anything new will come up?"

Instead of continuing walking down the hall, she came to the mirror and looked at herself. It was dark, so her face was shaded.

"Caster, mind shining your light here again?"

Following Mirai closely, Caster raised an eyebrow and smiled. "So I do entertain you, then?" he teased, letting her lead him into the gymnasium. His eyes went to the mirror almost immediately.

"Indeed we did not." he nodded, watching Mirai closely, walking to the mirror with her. "Why, not at all."

Lifting a hand near the glass Caster created a small flame in his hand, like before, condensing it in his hand and focusing the beam on the spot they had looked through before. "Anything different?"

Mirai pointed to the mirror which no longer showed the room.

"The mirror's changed again..." Mirai said as she placed a finger on her chin. "This is more than just a double mirror. If only there were a way in..."

At the same time, the door of the gymnasium slammed shut again, the little light from the window once again shutting. Mirai stepped back from there mirror.

"Caster, keep your light shining!" Mirai ordered.

Mirai kept her eyes alert as she scanned the room. She slipped out a fan of throwing knives from her sleeves. From one corner of the room, a man in a black suit and a white mask appeared, just barely seeable without Caster's light. He was holding a long machete in his hand and was running towards them. Mirai threw her knives, the weapons darting towards him, but the man flung them away at a rapid speed.

"Caster! Use your dust!" she demanded.

Mirai's orders had caused Caster to jump in surprise, the light flickering in his hand. Once he noticed the lights had gone out the light became brighter, illuminating the entire room. "What?" he asked, seeing the man and and jumping again, causing another flicker.

"Whoa! Please sir, take a seat!" Caster shouted, thrusting his free hand forward and shooting a wave of kinetic dust at the man's feet. "Now, freeze!" A wave of ice dust froze his legs and Caster slid across a thin sheet of ice left the way towards him.

Hopping off the ice, Caster pointed his hand at the man like a gun, two fingers out. "Thank you! You have been a wonderful volunteer!"

The man growled and raised a finger at Caster, a black tatoo of an eye on the skin near his wrist. Before Caster could blink, however, the man had disappeared. The doors opened once again and so did the windows. Mirai walked over to Caster and the space where the man had just been.

"He probably used a semblance..." Mirai said as her eyes narrowed. She grabbed Caster's wrist. "Come along. I don't think we should stay here any further. It's not safe at the moment."

Mirai led Caster out of the gymnasium. The halls were still extremely empty. Mirai didn't bring Caster back to the dorm room, however, but to the cafeteria which was more or less a bit crowded. She ordered two coffees and some danishes, seeing how macaroons were not an option.

"A teleporter..." Mirai said as she looked at the low quality pastry in front of her. "He could have continued fighting you but he refused to. I'm suggesting he was merely trying to scare us off and doesn't have any real fighting ability whatsover. Did you see his face or anything?"

"Sorry, I couldn't really see anything through that mask... Wait!" Caster snapped his fingers and spun on his heels, turning to Mirai with a wide grin. "He had a tattoo on his hand. It was an eye near his wrist."

Falling back on a seat, he narrowed his eyes. "Boy there is a lot of recalling being done today... Honestly that's it. Unfortunately I'm not the only one with tricks up my sleeves." Caster leaned back and shrugged. "Oh well. What would you make of such a tattoo?"

Mirai sampled the coffee and put it down frowning at its inferior quality. She looked back to Caster, pinching her chin in thought.

"A tatoo can mean a lot of things. Perhaps he just liked the pattern or perhaps it symbolizes something. It's too soon to tell. What I want to be able to do is get to that other room. The sane thing to do is to tell the authorities, but...we don't have much to hold on to with. Hmm..."

She began tapping her fingers. At the same time, the girl named Jane from the gymnasium before passed by, her face full of worry as she sat opposite of Caster and Mirai. She seemed to have recognized Caster slightly, but she glanced away.

"Mirai, when have we ever been able to be called sane?" Caster laughed, smiling warmly and tapping his fingers on the table. "Hmm... What if there is no entrance? If he can just teleport why not just do so to get in and out? That why you would never have to worry about someone finding their way in."

Grabbing a danish, he turned to Jane. "Excuse me, ma'am. Jess... Hmm.. No, Jane! Yes, Jane!" Caster slid down the bench slightly and smiled at her. "Is something on your mind? We are still investigating that mirror. Hopefully soon you will never have to fear the gymnasium again!"

Jane glanced over to Caster surprised.

"O-oh, hello..." she said meekly.

Mirai shifted in her chair to face Jane as well.

"Jane? Ah, you must be the girl that witnessed everything as Caster has told me," Mirai said.

Jane looked a bit confused at first but then nodded.

"Yes, I am," Jane said. "But...maybe we should just leave things be."
