PostSubject: Drake Ferrox   Drake Ferrox Icon_minitimeFri Sep 20, 2013 4:25 pm

CHARACTER

Name: Drake Ferrox

Age: 17 years - 3rd Day of the 8th Month

Gender: Male

Symbol: A silver dragon head symbol inset onto black. Black and white version  as shown below.

Spoiler:

Appearance: Drake stands at just over six foot in height, lean and toned in build with long, dark hair and dark, pained eyes. His arms are covered in scars from his training as is his upper torso but they appear to be of little concern to him.

He tends to wear a mix of dark and light colours, with light body armour of iron-grey and an almost-cloak that thins out into iron plated points, similar to dragonscales.

Spoiler:

(Face-Claim - Talon from League of Legends. His appearance is essentially a younger version of Talon.)

Personality: Dour and isolated the majority of the time Drake chooses not to openly interact with others due to the tragedies of his past. His approach to a situation is always serious, though not always methodical. He tends to be impulsive and quick to act, often with rash decisions or reactions that can lead to more trouble than they're ultimately worth.

He considers himself noble and (unfortunately) can display a sadistic streak in the field, dedicated whole to hunting the Grimm and trying to make them feel fear as a result of his vendetta

History: In his youth Drake had no aspirations to be a Huntsman. He was quite happy with a 'normal' family and a somewhat normal life with all aspirations to follow his father into a smithing profession. Yet all that changed when he was twelve years of age.

His family were caught out in a freak snowstorm while on a supply trip, cut off from the main roads and forced to try and find shelter by other means. Yet the storm held other dangers- the Grimm. Using the cover of snow his family came under attack by a pack of Beowolves, his father maimed and worst of all his younger sister, Artemis killed even as he tried to protect her with what little strength and power he had.

The result of this is a grim, morbid personality and a vendetta that saw him quickly start to rise through the ranks of various schools and academies, determined to reach the point where he could become a Huntsman and return the fear that scarred him so tenfold to the creatures that lurked within the darkness.

Spoiler:

Strength: Drake knows no fear. As a result of this he keeps his calm under pressure and can apply his knowledge and skill to a situation. This makes him a capable combatant, keeping control of his technique and able to adapt without the instinctive worry that can afflict most.

Weakness: A lack of fear can also be a weakness. He is prone to throwing himself into dangerous situations and can lose himself in his fury. Furthermore there are a number of psychological issues with Drake - his hatred of the Grimm borders on obsessive, his sadistic tendencies can be offputting and worrying to others and should he ever come across someone who looked similar to or acted similar to his deceased sister he would find himself almost going catatonic, unable to bring himself to harm them or take action against them as his memories haunt him still.

Semblance: Shattered Glass

'History': Aura is described as a 'reflection' of one's own personality and traits as manifested by the nature of their soul. This too is true of Drake. However, the Semblance manifested, Shattered Glass is as much a product of Drake's history as his dour personality and cold nature are. Just as his mind and soul shattered upon the death of his younger sister so too did his Semblance. Had it been allowed to develop naturally it was likely that it would have displayed properties associated with speed and reflection, much like a silvered mirror...but instead it shattered, like broken glass.

Spoiler:

Appearance: Drake's aura manifests as a swirling maelstrom of jagged blades and glass shards which dance around his form, clumping up to solidify across his arms and legs, adding to and augmenting his 'Talons' or allowing him to display similar capabilities if unarmed. Depending on the 'scale' of his aura's manifestation the maelstrom becomes larger and takes a more distinct form - that of a bladed white dragon.

Spoiler:

Aura Abilities: The first point to note when discussing the abilities of Shattered Glass is that its strengths and weaknesses are dependant on its current scale. The scale is a measure of the current amount of emotional stress and pressure that Drake is under, with certain external factors being capable of causing a Trigger Point which functions as a sort of 'limit break' and ramps Shattered Glass to its full, maximum capability for a brief moment of time or until the trigger point resets. This effect is known as Frenzy.

The vast majority of the time Drake fights with a significant handicap compared to others around him. His natural 'base' aura level is seemingly capped around 70% and he shows no capability to utilise aura techniques (even base ones such a defense and passive regeneration and stamina) unless faced with a source of stress - be it emotional or physical. It must be noted that the greater the potential stress the quicker Shattered Glass scales up and the more likely the chance of Frenzy being triggered in a combat situation.

The First Stage of Shattered Glass can be brought around through constant, mild aggravation, frustration or anxiety. At this stage Drake is capable of manifesting aura techniques, though he is still fighting at an effective 70% Aura level with a reduced recovery rate compared to those around him. At the First Stage the Bladestorm's visual aspect is absent, as is its active effect.

The Second Stage is brought about by more significant forms of stress - pressure from an endeavour with significant risk (risk of injury, significant penalties or emotional stress) or physical pain. At the Second Stage Drake's recovery increases to a 'normal' rate though his Aura level is still capped at 70%. He also has full access to the passive aura techniques and does not have to actively maintain them in order to gain their benefits (increased defensive capabilities, resilience and recovery). It must be noted that these passive abilities are almost considered 'default' Aura abilities for most others.

The Bladestorm at Second Stage is somewhat more pronounced. The visual aspect of the swirling blades is visible and they manifest a short distance away from Drake of approximately 15 feet at most. The active effect can be produced but at this stage must be actively maintained for as long as it is required.

The Third Stage is triggered by pronounced and significant forms of stress, be they physical or mental. Injuries that draw blood or cause significant bursts of pain can push Shattered Glass to the Third Stage as can particularly spiteful targeted insults or sources of emotional duress. Anything aimed at the memory of Drake's sister, his family, his closest friends or his significant other can push to the Third Stage.

At the Third Stage Drake manifests the ability to utilise all passive aura traits without maintenance as well as the Aura techniques designed to function with the Talons. His recovery is also increased by a minor amount beyond normal and his speed (including attack speed) and agility increase by approximately 15%. His base rate of Aura increases to 90%. It is to be noted that at this Stage Drake functions as a normal person would, with his Semblance actually providing benefits as oppose to acting as a restriction as it has done to this point.

The Bladestorm at this point has an increased range of 20 feet and its active effect can be 'toggled' for a significant cost, though after the initial activation it does not require a constant maintenance. At Stage Three the ability to 'trigger' Frenzy starts at a base of 10% and scales up over time. The longer Stage Three is maintained the greater the ability to voluntarily trigger Frenzy.

Stage Four is Frenzy, as detailed below.

Frenzy: Frenzy is Stage Four of Shattered Glass and is brought about through sustained maintenance of Stage Three or by a Trigger Point. There are distinct advantages and disadvantages to both methods of triggering Frenzy as listed below. But first, some basics.

Whether Maintained or Triggered Frenzy has the following effects:

  • Overcharge - Frenzy ramps up Drake's Aura levels by a significant amount, in such a way that it breaks most conventional methods used to display current levels. The amount that it Overcharges varies between Maintained or Triggered Frenzy but both act as an enabler, giving Drake free reign over his Aura techniques for a brief period of time without having to worry about burning himself out. The Overcharge effectively creates a temporary 'pool' of Aura that Drake can utilise while Frenzy is active.

  • Accelerate - Frenzy ramps up Drake's speed by a significant amount, though this again varies between Maintained and Triggered. This speed ramp also affects attack speed as well as adding an element of defense. This increased speed effectively turns Drake into a blur of movement, allowing him to inflict a flurry of blows on a single target or to dash between multiple targets and strike key spots.

  • Augmented Bladestorm - In Frenzy the Bladestorm is augmented, its active effect acting as a functional passive during the duration of the Frenzy, with a range of 30 feet.

It should be noted that Frenzy can become active multiple times during a combat.

Maintained Frenzy is brought about through upkeep of Stage Three stresses and pressures. Its advantage over Triggered Frenzy is that it can be controlled, activated at will and allows Drake to keep some semblance of his mind in tact to interact with others.

However, Maintained Frenzy is significantly weaker at augmenting Drake - granting a 20% Overcharge (for a total of 110% Total Aura) and a total (Including Stage Three percentages) 40% Accelerate. Maintained Frenzy also lasts a shorter duration than Triggered Frenzy, dissipating within two minutes (equivalent two posts). It has the exact same Crash cost as Triggered Frenzy.

Triggered Frenzy is brought about exclusively by an External Factor (as listed below). It is wholly uncontrolled and during Triggered Frenzy Drake's mindset starts to go feral as he becomes lost in the Memory and starts to act on pure instinct. In this state Drake can potentially become a risk to those around him, unless they function as a Trigger.

For the loss of control the Triggered Frenzy is much stronger in its augmentative capabilities, granting a 50% Overcharge (for a total of 140% Total Aura) and a total 80% Accelerate. It's duration is much more significant, lasting four minutes (equivalent four posts) or until a Trigger Reset is met. The known Trigger Points/Resets are listed below.

  • The Memory - The Memory is Drake's most significant Trigger, in particular his sister. Should he encounter someone who looks similar or indeed acts very similar to Artemis it can cause a Frenzy trigger. This is almost guaranteed should they be injured or trapped while around him. The Reset is simply seeing them 'safe' or well.

  • The Heart - Emotions are a dangerous thing for Drake. Should he fall in love or become close to someone as a friend or confidant then there is a chance they too could trigger the Frenzy. As with the Memory the individual concern becomes a Reset.

Both forms of Frenzy have a significant Crash associated with them. Whether the Frenzy is Maintained or Triggered it affects Drake in the following ways upon running out, whether through a reset or a durational expiration.

Drake's Aura crashes and the cap is reduced by 20%. In the first instance it drops from a natural base 70% to 50% until he has had sufficient rest and recovery.  In the second instance it drops to 30% and in the third instance it drops to 10%.

Unless a Semblance Healer or Aura augmenter can rapidly attend to Drake a fourth Frenzy will prove fatal.

Bladestorm: The Bladestorm is the second defining feature of Shattered Glass. As it implies it is effectively a 'storm' of blades that manifests around Drake when his aura becomes truly active. The Bladestorm has two key effects, one passive and one active.

Defense of Thorns (Passive) - The Passive of the Bladestorm is the Defense of Thorns. It functions similar to a shield, giving Drake something of a 'spiked' hide against melee attacks. It is particularly effective against unarmed opponents who find that each strike they put down results in them taking a number of piercing and slashing wounds themselves as they connect with the interlocked layer of blades that surrounds Drake. It must be noted that the Defense is not particularly effective against ranged opponents or those who use held weapons against Drake in melee.

Maelstrom of Slivers (Active) - The Maelstrom is the Bladestom's active ability. In all stages bar Frenzy it requires a significant Aura cost to either toggle or keep active (dependant on which Stage Shattered Glass is currently at). The Maelstrom acts as an aura of whirling blades, moving around Drake in a manner similar to a sandstorm, slicing and cutting at that which comes into its range. It must be noted that the Maelstrom is not particularly effective against opponents in cover as the cover can negate the slivers.

Specialist Aura Techniques

Spin: The Spin is a personal based AoE technique that does low damage however is often used to mark those around Drake in a combat. This can be used offensively, when combined with the Flamethrower element of the Talons or defensively to mark allies in case the Frenzy is triggered. It is performed by a simple spinning slash in which the Talon blades are brought up, around and to the ground to produce a shockwave with a roughly ten foot radius.

Focus: The Focus is a medium ranged, high damage projectile designed to knock a foe off their feet. It is performed by a quick and aggressive overhand slash that sends a burst along the ground in the direction of the slash itself. Again, this can be combined with the flamethrower element of the Talons to produce a flaming bolt. The key thing of Focus is the sound it makes upon impact with a target - a sound not unlike gunshot.

Shockwave: The Shockwave is a fairly long ranged, cone projectile designed to knock foes back and away from Drake. Its strength diminishes over distance - effectively those at close range or point blank range can find themselves thrown back nearly ten yards with considerable force while those further away may only be pushed back one or two yards and not even taken off their feet.

The Shockwave is performed by two wide cross slashes to the front. It is by far the most aura intensive technique Drake uses but at the same time most likely the most potent.

Dragon's Descent: The Dragon's Descent first emerged as Drake's landing strategy and doubles up as a combination attack with the right partner. The principle is sound - find someone or something capable of propelling Drake a fair distance forward, bringing the Talons around, triggering the Flamethrower element and manifesting a sort of gliding cape of Aura within the trail of flames. The result is a reinforced forward impact on the target (with significant damage from the Talons) and a trail of flames behind him. With this Drake can in theory cleave through a large crowd or mass of enemies.

WEAPON

Name: The Talons of Prometheus

Spoiler:

Primary Form: Heavily armoured gauntlets with four long blades protruding from above the knuckles (See image). The gauntlets are jet black in colour with iron plating across the back in a sort of scale pattern. There are a number of pipes connecting the blades to the inner chambers of the gauntlet. Just below the 'wrist' lies an armoured fuel chamber for the Talons' secondary function.

The Talons are supported by a relatively barebones frame that Drake wears across his arm, connected to two small armoured plates, one of which goes across the chest and the other his back.

Secondary Form/Function: Flamethrower. The Talon blades have grooves running along the sides which act as fuel channels. When triggered, by a motion of the thumb the flames ignite and spread out along the length of the blades. Needless to say his fighting style is 'flashy' and arcing swipes of the talons are often used to send out a flaming crescent slash in combat.

Furthermore the flamethrower can be triggered when the talons are embedded in somethng, pouring the flames into the wound or cut with significantly painful results.

The flamethrower is fuel based. The fuel chamber is that point beneath the 'wrist' and each canister contains enough fuel for five shots. He carries a few spare canisters on his belt for in the field reloads.

History: The Talons were designed and built by Drake as part of his training, in preparation for Beacon and their purpose is quite simple. Pain. His fighting style is showy to an extend and the talons are capable of delivering nasty stab wounds and slashes, with the flamethrower component being triggered as a finishing maneuvere or to inflict yet more pain.

Quick question: does the flamethrower aspect of your weapon run on dust, or does it run on fuel?
