CHARACTER

Name:
Raethien Reole

Nickname:
Raeth

Age:
18, Birth: 4th day of 10th month

Gender:
Male

Symbol:
N/A

Occupation:
Student

Appearance:
Standing at just a hair under 5’10”, Raeth is decently well-built for his height, and with the low levels of fat on his body (as par the course for most students), he comes in at around one-hundred-and-sixty pounds.  A shock of red hair adorns his head, coming down in singular, almost spiked, locks.  They fall do about the middle of his face, moving gradually lower as one moves around to his back, the far back reaching the nape of his neck.  The tips of the scarlet hair, roughly about an inch long, and seemingly only the bangs, end in silver.

Brilliant blue eyes watch from beneath his bangs, often glimmering with some level of mischief and amusement.  Furthering this is his mouth, which is usually showing either a grin, a smirk, or some other emotion, often synonymous with that showing in his eyes.

While in class, he wears the uniform though his button-down shirt is often hastily put on, and thusly untucked.  The jacket fits well and pants as well, but the lack of the tucked-in shirt often adds an air of either uncaring or, as he likes to call it, ‘roguishly charming.’  Outside of class, he’s often seen sporting a dark red t-shirt with a brown leather jerkin over top.  Rather than go with anything fancy for legs, it’s often just a pair of blue jeans, though loose enough to not interfere with his movements.  On his right shoulder is a pauldron, the straps going across his body, yet beneath the tunic.

Wolf-like ears, their fur as red as his normal hair color, sit atop his head, proving that he is a Faunus.  In addition, tail of similar color, the tip sharing the same color silver as the bangs, makes its way from his tailbone.  Generally it doesn’t get in the way of his uniform or his jeans, but on occasion he’ll mutter something about it, if it’s uncomfortable.  However, he does show his Faunus heritage proudly, not at all hiding who he is.

Rae:

History:
Raethien is, as can obviously be seen, a Faunus.  His mother, whom he takes after, is the same style of Faunus as himself, while his father simply has a pair of ram horns.   Born of a complete union between two other Faunus, he was allowed to grow and do what he willed with very little restriction.  That, of course, led him to doing almost whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted.  It wasn’t to say that his parents were bad parents, but they just never saw a need to impose fierce restrictions upon him.  That is, of course, except when he crossed a major line.

When he was seven, he beat up one of the other children in the area, actually managing to knock the boy out.  That wouldn’t have been noticeable on its own, however the boy performed the same feat against his initial opponent’s older brother.  Given that both of his parents had fought time and time again against the Grimms, assisting where they could, it was inevitable that their son would follow in their footsteps.

However, the act of beating a normal boy was something that they could not condone, and for the first time in his life, he got both a spanking and was grounded.  Yet his father had seen the boy’s tenacity and ability in combat, and he was somewhat ‘homeschooled’ by his parents in the art of combat.  His father was a scythe user, and his mother simply used a one-handed longsword.  He appreciated their styles, but had begun to create a style of his own.

He eventually entered into Signal, once he realized this.  Early on, he was tasked with building his weapons, and while he was able to complete one of them, it took him nearly until he graduated in order to create a second, and to have the two work together seamlessly.  But upon graduating, he had the two weapons ready to go, and submitted his applications to Beacon, and was granted acceptance.

And now, he finds himself ready to attend Beacon, eager to prove that Faunus are not to be trifled with, and that they’re as skilled as humans are.

Personality:
Raethien is, as told by his facial expression, generally an upbeat and happy-go-lucky sort.  Despite the fact that his own race is oft discriminated against, the boy is an optimist, and wants to prove to everyone that he and his ilk are as good as humans are.  However, with that said, he holds no grudge against humans, and does not wish to bring them down, but rather wishes to use his own skills to raise his race’s prestige.

In most situations, even battle, he’s always wearing a smile of some level, depending on his level of amusement.  He doesn’t always feel the amusement that he shows, but he feels that there is already too much unhappiness in the world.  And thus he attempts to brighten it to the best of his ability by bringing his own brand of sunshine in whenever he’s able to.  He had defused a few situations at Signal between classmates by using his charm and optimism, much to the relief of some teachers who weren’t there at the time.

However, all men have their vices, and Raethien’s is women.  The boy was hit hard by his hormones and puberty, and even now the rush has not died down.  It is not unusual for him to pass notes to girls mid-class period, or in the event of some spars, flirt with the female opponents.  In fact, this does not extend to only girls his own age, and he’s been seen passing moves at the female teachers as well, which has landed him in detention more than once.

He’s shown that he can be serious if need be, but for the most part, he’s content to simply let things blow over as they would, not stressing about anything.  This also extends to his grades and while he’s not failing any of his classes, nor is he excelling in any category, putting him right at middle-of-the-road, academically.  He studies seemingly only for tests, taking quizzes, both pop and planned, as they come, not even letting them bother him.

This continues onto nearly every facet of his personality.  He is often worry-free but this leaves him with issues with responsibility.  When he can do things because he wants to, he shows far more enthusiasm than doing those same things because he has to.  This has, also, caused most of his relationships to flop, as he has not yet understood the simple idea of not doing whatever he feels like.  He has been known to be both inattentive and unfaithful, and any who recognize him from Signal will realize this as well.

Strength:
[*]Charming- Try as you might to dislike him, unless he’s personally spurned you, he’s generally a well-received fellow.  Attractive and gifted with a silk tongue, he’s quick to make a friend.
[*]Resilient- Likely his strongest combat trait, Raethien can take a great deal of punishment and continue fighting.  He’s not sure where he gets it (his mother) but he refuses to give up until he’s dead.
[*]Receptive- Despite his rather lackadaisical attitude, there’s a reason he’s not failing his classes.  His ability to take in information is quite high, which also aids him in combat by seeing patterns and fighting styles and finding ways to react to them.

Weakness:
[*]Socially Aloof- Charming, yes, but Raethien is really only good at first impressions.  He will forego dinner dates, plans with friends, etc. if something ‘more interesting’ comes along.
[*]Women- As mentioned, he has a certain fondness for them, which causes him to be easily led astray, or into a trap, by a pretty face.
[*]Low Aura- Despite his physical resiliency, Raethien’s aura has never been strong.  He uses most of it offensively with his weapons, leaving little for defense.  Thankfully, due to the resiliency of his body, his aura does regenerate fairly quickly.
[*]Dust Dumb- Raeth has never really bothered to learn how Dust works and its intricacies, and has no interest in it, beyond an academic one.  His weapons don’t require it and thusly he doesn’t bother with it.

Semblance:
Heat Control- Rather than create or manipulate flames like his mother, Raethien’s skill instead allows him to control the very presence of heat.  Whatever he wishes to manipulate must be touching his body, and must be a solid or liquid.  (i.e. he cannot lower the temperature of the air directly.)  The heat is not simply raised or lowered to his whim, but is displaced.  His most common use is with his weapons, turning one to near absolute zero and the other into a white-hot blade.
He can use this power on living creatures, however the process takes far longer, given that they create their own heat, (not to mention have their own aura,) which makes it nigh-useless as an application in combat.

WEAPON

Name:
Agni and Baraa

Primary Form:
The weapons are a pair of what appear to be gunblades.  Unlike the traditional ‘fantasy’ gunblade which uses the hammer to send vibrations through the weapon to inflict additional damage, these actually have a working pistol component.  This allows for both simultaneous ranged and melee combat.  Forged of two different metals, they react differently to Raeth's Semblance, allowing him to easily pull the heat from Baraa and move it to Agni, giving their namesakes.  The guns themselves actually, unlike most of his classmates’ weapons, don’t use ammunition.  The guns, a conduit for his aura, actually pull the aura from his body, harden it and fire it from the gun as a bullet.

It deals roughly about as much damage as an average bullet, but the weapons themselves pull directly from his aura, which makes it dangerous for him to use too much of.  However, due to his aura’s quick regeneration, he rarely overextends himself… but it can happen.  An interesting side effect of his use of his Semblance on his weapons, is that the bullets fired tend to take on the rough elemental properties of the given temperatures.  The aura ‘bullets’ fired from Agni tend to burn, and those from Baraa tend to freeze.

Secondary Form:
This is what had taken him so long at Signal in order to get the two weapons working in tandem.  Agni was created first, and Baraa was designed around the same principles, but to also act as a complement.  With a few switches, Baraa can actually be more-or-less inserted into Agni, forming what is essentially a spear.  The real form, however, is that as both weapons are now combined into a singular weapon, with the barrels fitting together seamlessly.  Raeth’s Aura is able to be funneled into both before firing a singular shot with far more power than any of his singular pistol-style shots.  They are far slower given that the weapons are able to handle more Aura per shot, however.

Tertiary Form:
Less a tertiary form and more just a setting for the primary form, this allows Agni and Baraa to go from semi-automatic to a full-automatic mode.  This is something of a last-ditch effort, as it rapidly drains his Aura at the expense of increased power through a vastly increased fire rate.

History:
Agni was the first weapon created by Raethien, when he went to school at Signal.  The weapon was simply a way for him to create a simultaneous ranged and melee style of combat.  His parents had taught him both more ‘traditional’ fighting with a sword, and also a polearm, but the weapons had never felt quite right in his hands.  When one of the students at Signal let Raethien check out his handgun, the idea struck him.

He knew right away that the style of the weapon, and its build, wasn’t going to allow him to fire traditional rounds, and still be effective as a melee weapon.  So after doing some research (and consulting a few of the teachers) he created a weapon that essentially used his own aura as a weapon in of itself.  This allowed him to attack with the gunblade as a sword, albeit with an odd handle, and also fire rounds either into his target or into a far away one.

As he trained with Agni, he felt immediately unbalanced.  He attempted to use a shield in his offhand but it just didn’t feel right.  Instead, he began to construct another one in his spare time, wanting them to be a weapon pair.  However, he realized that there might be some foes out there with a tough hide which his traditional shots couldn’t penetrate.

He then designed Baraa to be customizable, fitting around Agni and forming it into a riflespear.  The concept was sound, but the finer tuning took quite awhile to allow it to match perfectly.  Once it was done, the weapon moved seamlessly in his hands as a spear, and performed better than he’d expected in its rifle format, allowing him to charge far more aura into it than a single pistol shot.  Since then, he has spared no expense in using them, and is getting a more fine-tuned style with the dual-wield, multi-range combat.[/b]

I'm not sure how I feel about the aura bullets, but otherwise, I like. Approval +1.
