PostSubject: The Range. 'Nothin' More Manly' [Open]   Mon Mar 17, 2014 7:54 pm

[Week 10: Tuesday]

"Why are we out here again?" Sonny reluctantly follows Spencer through the Beacon Range. A few shots of gunfire can be heard popping around from time to time.
"It's the manliest thing two guys can do-go to a range, pop a few, and make conversation. It's like fishing!" Spencer has a bright look upon his face, as usual. The two boys, or rather Spencer, pick a lane and settle there.
"But...I don't even like fishing," Sonny protests. In his hand is put Candy. He nearly drops it with the unexpected weight. "Whoa!"
"Ever fire a round from a .500 before?" Spencer takes out Delilah and points it down range before spinning it back and putting it away again.
"The largest I've ever fired was Luna..." Spencer questioningly looks over at Sonny.
"Which is~~~?"
"My shield."
"Which packs a~~~?"
".308 Magnum."
Spencer slaps Sonny on the shoulder. "Well then, t'day's your lucky day, my frien'. You get to fire a custom-made five-hun'red magnum! Now, all's ya gotta do is point, pull, an' hold on tight!"
Without delay, Sonny raises the pistol with only his right hand and fires the wickedly-powerful gun down range with a very small amount of recoil.

100/87

Spencer stands there without phase. The fact that a boy of Sonny's size can fire his .500, with 700-grain Taijitu-thumper ammunition, as easily as he can without outside help tells him the shot was illegitimate.
"....Schwartz?"
"-Yeah?"
"..What exac'ly is y'semblance?"
Much to the liking of Sonny, the confrontation gets interrupted by another person.

Lux had been testing the adjustments he had made to Red Dawn's scope. Even though he rarely used it in combat, Lux still treasured the spear/rifle, practicing with and upgrading it frequently. Lux was reviewing his groupings when he saw a familiar face. Lux walked towards Sonny, to focused on him and ideas for more improvements to Red Dawn to notice the stranger with him.

"Hey Sonny," Lux said as he walked up with Red Dawn on his shoulder, still looking at his groupings, "would you mind telling Tamaki that I won't be-" Lux suddenly stopped after he looked up and noticed the man with his teammate. "I-I'm so sorry," Lux said a bit nervously as he backed up, instinctively moving Red Dawn so he was holding it in both hands in case anything happened. "I-I di-didn't notice you. Sorry to interrupt," Lux said, slightly bowing a little as he did so. "Well, I'll just leave you two alone," Lux said as he tried to leave.

Spencer automatically detects the guard of the boy and his history with the other side of human nature consequently causes him to become a little more uneasy. His right hand instinctively stays loose and free at his side.
Sonny tries to calm his teammate down, knowing of his problem from their introduction. "Oh look, you startled him!"
"Did not!"
"Come hang out. Us guys." Please don't leave me alone! Sonny pats Lux on the shoulder closest to him. "We're just here to put rounds down-range and apparently try out different weapons to see what it's like." Sonny gestures toward the larger boy. "This is Spencer. I met him when he gave me a ride one time." Sonny turns to Spencer. "Spencer, this is..Lux. Are you okay?" Spencer seemed to be out of it for a second and a couple drops of sweat had formed on his temple.
"Huh?-Yeah, I'm fine. Little warm in 'ere's all." He takes off his jacket and lets his hand leave his side for a shake. "Spencer Rouge, mate. No worries, I don' bite."

Lux nervously looked between Sonny and the stranger. All he really wanted to do was make an excuse and leave, but Lux couldn't refuse the look in his teammates eyes, he had used it himself to many times just to ignore it. 'Anyway,' Lux thought 'I'm with my teammate, and it's only one guy.'

Lux looked back at Spencer and noticed that he also seemed a little nervous. Calming himself down, Lux took Red Dawn in his left hand and put it to his side. Using his free hand, Lux shook Spencer's hand. "It is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Lux Tempesta," he said, trying his best not to sound nervous and making a effort not to accidentally shock him.

Spencer relaxes after he retracts his hand and finds Sonny's associate to have at least shown less threat.
Proud of you, man. Sonny sets down the hand cannon Spencer possesses and removes Luna from his back without opening her up to save room on the lane. "Your turn, tough guy." The unopened shield gets pushed upon Spencer.
"Have you ever heard of my family?" Spencer questioningly looks at the boy.
"Yeah? My family is heavily involved in hunter life, too! You guys have been around a bit longer, right?" Spencer looks a little disappointed.
"Longer than a bit.-Dude we don' even know how long we' been here. Historians only follow the royal and rich. But that's beside the point! My family is all abou' guns. Y'don't think I fired anything like a puny .308? Spencer walks up to Lux with the shield.
"But, a .308 isn't puny at all..." What in God's name did that boy fire that makes a .308 puny? The closed shield gets set into Lux's hands.
"Here, lets let this guy shoot it. I' pro'ly spent more cartridges in my lifetime 'an breaths you took."
"I~highly doubt that.."
"I'm good on experiencing recoil. I'll pick up your weapon when the two o' you are used to the others."

Lux just watched Sonny and Spencer talk about family history and weapons. 'Does it really matter about who's family has been doing this the longest' Lux thought as he watched them continue their discussion until Spencer came over and put Luna in his hand.

"Uh," Lux just stared at the shield that had just been given to him before looking at the two people he was with. "Okay, I guess," Lux muttered as he retracted Red Dawn and put it in its holster before moving Luna to his left arm trying his best to imitate the way Sonny held the weapon. Lux raised Luna and pointed it down range. He had designed and tested rifles that used .308, but he was more comfortable with his weapons .224. Aiming carefully, Lux pulled the trigger and was surprised by the lack of recoil. After this he returned the weapon to its owner while saying "Good weapon". Lux then returned to standing there quietly.

Sonny watches and is surprised when Lux takes Sonny's own wide stance and holds out the shield in his left arm in the familiar style stance he commonly uses with Luna. It was a single shot and on target. Sonny takes back the weapon and comments, "I'm surprised you paid that much attention to my style. I'm a little bit more loose on the firing arm but you probably figured out the reason why after firing it." Spencer cuts between the two, invigorated by the smell of expended munitions.
"Alright-alright, lemmie take a crack at it." Sonny hands over the shield and he grabs it with his right arm, carefully aiming down the...wait, what?
"Where are the sights on this thing?"
Sonny answers with a questioning look.
"It's a shield. I didn't want to have to repair it just about every time I went into battle with it. To direct fire, I use intuitive aiming-I call it."
"Yeah, I know the technique, I use it all the time with my weapons. But d'you really not eve' use sights?" Spencer looks back down the "sights" toward the target to get ready.
"When the need for it comes along, I put my spear on top and use the blade to line up the shot. Dude, I've used the weapon set since I was little-I don't think you know the technique like I- Spencer picks up Candy from the surface in front of him and shoots the grimm target right in the face without aiming down the sights. Sonny is left without speech. It is now that Spencer raises Luna back up and fires a few rounds down-range. The rifled shield hardly moves at all with Spencer's semblance and the recoil-reduction spring system inside of Luna.
"Wow, tha' really does hardly have any recoil. What made you want to install something to reduce it to this level?" Sonny turns the left side of his face away from Spencer, toward the target to hide the small scar on his chin. Once again, he seeks for a distraction.
"Lux! What about your weapons? I've been itching to try your pistols after seeing how flexible they allow you to be!"

Lux was surprised that Spencer could take such an accurate shot with such little aim. Lux thought it was quite impressive, even though it seemed like he was just showing of.

"Uh, s-sure," Lux said to Sonny as he took Lightning and Thunder out of there sheaths and twirled them in his hands out of habit for a second before switching them to there pistol form. "They aren't that impressive," Lux said sheepishly as he handed Sonny and Spencer each a pistol, "just good, strong pistols with .224 ammo. Nothing special." Lux noticed he was feeling a bit uncomfortable without his preferred weapons at his side and started twirling Red Dawn in its collapsed form around in his hand. 'Please be careful with them,' Lux thought while watching the two with his pistols.

Spencer, only able to twirl his pistols a few times on a go because of the size, once again gets excited when the boy spins his weapons. Thinking, damn, do I wish I had my .357s right now. Note to self: bring them next time I'm here.
Sonny is not used to using two firearm weapons at once and his stance heavily favors his left hand even though Sonny is right-handed. Aw, what the hell, he thought as he got into the uncomfortable stance. His left leg steps out, right leg is stagnant and not brought back very much since he is used to having his torso almost completely turned to his right. Now his torso faces diagonally a bit to allow the right pistol to face forward. Both guns are tilted inward a little. Sonny then pulls each trigger at different times while staying at the same pace, creating an eighth note-like speed. A good 2/5 hit the target with only 1/8 making it on their target of center mass. The majority being Sonny's Thunder hand.
Sonny turns around with a disappointed expression on his face and hands the two guns back to Lux.

Lux took his preferred weapons from Sonny, trying to check them over for any possible scratches without being to obvious about it. Lux was just about to return them to his holster when he looked at Spencer and realized he hadn't tried them. "D-do you want to try them," Lux asked a bit reluctantly, not wanting to give up his favorite weapons but at the same time not wanting to be rude. Lux put Lightning and Thunder in front of Spencer, gesturing for him to take them.

Very much so! "I suppose I could give it a try." Spencer had not fired caliber gun that he can play around with for a while. His schooling has left him with little time to goof off so he has been packing Candy and Delilah more often. Spencer takes the two guns and aims down range with a much more solid stance. A familiar one to him.
Left leg forward, right back and turned like Sonny's but his torso is directed at only a good 10 degrees away from the front to put the weapons nearly side by side. The way it is carried is a sturdy, strong, oak stance. The perfect fit for the oak-like mindset of Spencer Rouge. Instead of firing both at once or one after the other, like Sonny, he opts for his personal style treating them as two different weapons instead of a single weapon by firing in a random pattern and lifting the barrel of whatever one is not being fired. Two fire left, one right, another left, one right, one left, and three right. "Woo!" each shot was, by normal standards, on target. By Spencer's, a head shot is not good enough when he is looking at a stationary target.
He spins the guns on their triggers but it is not as smooth as what would be normal for him since magnum-style pistols are a little more balanced but he does not care how dumb he looks. Spencer likes the feel of the light guns. "Who~ie! Haven't had the chance t' shoot that easily in a while!" Spencer hands over the two guns. One more thing.
"Hey, by any chance have you...fired a five-hun'red ever before?"

Lux could tell just by watching Spencer that he was use to using duel pistols, and that he was enjoying it quite a bit. Lux couldn't help but show a little smile at the man's enjoyment, he was glad he had let him try out the pistols.

As Lux took his weapons back he listened to Spencer ask his question. "No," Lux answered truthfully as he put away his daggers, "I've always considered them a little to much for my of combat style." Lux looked at Spencer, "If you're asking then I assume that is what your pistols use."

Spencer is always interested in letting someone have the almost life-changing experience of firing a .500. Not for the thrill of watching someone almost defecate and wet themselves at the same time like others do, but for the thrill of making a memory for the other person. It may not be the absolute strongest weapon out there but it is still strong enough to never forget the first time. Especially since it is hard to accurately fire with both hands without having to go through shooting it a lot to the point of getting arthritis in the wrist at a young age.
He pulls Candy from her holster again and hands the stronger of his two pieces over to Lux. "Yep, my extra manliness allows me t' fire two!"
Bull. "It's your semblance, isn't it?"
"My semblance is I got a huge amoun'o'testosterone." Spencer strikes a heroic pose; putting his left hand on his hip and his right to his chin as he seems to look at a nonexistent horizon, toward the future and beyond. *Heroic music*
"That doesn't even make any sense. Aura doesn't work that way." *Music cuts* Spencer looks disapprovingly at Sonny and then directs his attention back at Lux.
"Now careful. Candy-here kicks as hard, an' as unexpectedly as a mule wi' bi-polar disorder."

Lux took the pistol from Spencer and examined it the same way he did the first time he saw any weapon. Lux shifted the pistol from hand to hand, noting the weight and size while listening to the other two have there discussion. A small smirk appeared on Lux's face as he thought that the pistols might just be Spencer's way of compensating for something before pushing the thought out of his head and examining the pistol more closely, noting the image of a King Taijitu on the barrel and the altered shape of the hammer. "Interesting," Lux muttered before checking the amount of ammo in the pistol and readying himself to fire. Lux pointed the gun down the range, squeezing the grip tighter as he prepared to fire.

*shing*

To Lux's surprise, a blade suddenly extended from the bottom of the grip. "Fascinating," Lux muttered as he inspected the blade , running his finger across its edge as part of him jokingly thought that it would probably be just as effective to use the pistol as a bludgeon. "How do you ret-," as Lux started speaking, he squeezed the grip again, causing the blade to return to the handle. "Oh, never mind," Lux said before once again readying himself to fire the gun. Aiming dead center at the target, Lux pulled the trigger and was surprised  by the amount of recoil, releasing a tiny, harmless electric pulse. After calming down, Lux handed the pistol back to Spencer. "It is an interesting weapon," Lux said as he looked up at the pistol's owner. "What's its name?"

Impressive for someone without the ability to control something like that with semblance and while forced to take a light grip like Spencer's...
Spencer's eye sight can sometimes turn him into a perfectionist with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. A couple inches short o' the cen'er...Why are my clo'hs statically charged? He takes the pistol and removes the three spent shells before starting to fill the spots in the cylinder one by one. "I call tha' one there Candy, and this one on my hip is Delilah." The third shell is loaded and then the cylinder is spun and flicked closed. The barrel pushes the lower half of Spencer's jacket aside and gets pushed into its housing area. "God, I hate random static," says Spencer as he fiddles around with his jacket to try getting rid of the uncomfortable feel. Sonny questioningly looks at Spencer for a second before realizing this is the first time he has been around Lux. Sonny had forced himself to get used to feeling static any time Lux got startled or frustrated and now hardly notices it.
"Huh?-Oh I don't mind it." Lets not embarrass the team mate now.
"How? If feels funny." Spencer's interrogation mind-set is obviously not turned on. He doesn't think that it could possibly be artificial at all.

Lux turned his head away from Spencer, slightly embarrassed and trying to think of a way to change the subject. "H-hey, uh," Lux stuttered as an idea came to mind, "neither of you have tried Red Dawn yet." Lux took out Red Dawn and fully extended it into its spear mode before switching it to its rifle form. "I don't really use it to much in combat, but its still a good weapon," Lux said as he held it out for someone to take.

Sonny takes it, wishing for redemption from the last go. "DMR! My style!" Spencer studies the strange markings all over the rifle, trying to discern any meaning from it but cannot.
Sonny takes aim with a wider stance than normal for firing a combat rifle. A side effect of his style of weapon. Right away, the weapon points on target while the scope only seems to confirm it for Sonny. ...Huh. Ignoring the little moment of fascination, Sonny takes aim and fires. The weapon has a little more recoil than he is used to but the stock makes up for it. The rounds hit near their intended targets but are not badly placed. As usual, Sonny cannot call himself a superior marksmen to most in the school who use a rifle but can at least prove to be a trained rifleman. The last two shots (7th and 8th shots) are given a little aura and land nicely on target.
"Very rugged. I like it."

Lux took Red Dawn back and put in a fresh clip while looking at the target. "Good shots," Lux said as he checked Red Dawn over. "Do you want to try Red Dawn out as well Spencer," Lux asked as he held the rifle out to the man, noticing that he seemed to be examining it.

Spencer originally was not going to try it but he thought, Ah~, what the heck. Might as well since it's the only one we haven' exchanged yet. and grabbed the rifle. "Sure." He takes the rifle in his hand and inspects all up and down the body. "Strange decorations...'is some kin'a camouflage?" Spencer's investigative ability finally kicks in. "-Wait-no, it means something, don' it? On the original form?"
Spencer looks around for something to change it back for a quick look.

It took a while for Lux to realize what Spencer was looking at. Most people didn't notice the markings or didn't care. "Oh, if you're interested I'll show you," Lux said as he took back Red Dawn and hit a hidden switch, transforming it into its spear form. "It tells the history of the Verity family since The War," Lux said as he held out his weapon for Spencer to see. "It's a tradition for family members to have it on their spear."

Spencer inspects the pole arm thoroughly. The name he was given sticks in his mind. "Verity, y'say?" Spencer is surprised. He has heard of the Verity family, as they used to be in close ties with his own family long ago when the Verity family was still a warrior clan. Spencer does not know it but him and Lux are actually distant relatives branching from that age.
[Feel free to shoot that down, if you like. I just think it'd be a cool little detail. Razz]
"I...think I know you. My aunt knows your family an'....I think I seen you before. I seen a kid tha' could kin'a-sorta look like yeh when he would grow up." Now Spencer is up to about 75% of the pole arm. Some moments he recognizes from stories involving his own family, others are Verity-specific and have nothing to do with Rouges. "Shy, little kid that liked to cling to his daddy at a party on the ranch. My ma introduced me to him because she knew I'd probably hang out with him if he liked it or not, even if we did nothing." Spencer reaches the top right after the end of speaking and his eyes show another revelation. Adoption?
"..."
Spencer, having watched Lux change the weapon earlier, triggers the change into the-in his opinion-more comfortable weapon form before pulling the charging handle and inspecting the firing mechanism. He feels it best not to ask of the top for conformation, for it could be a touchy subject.
Even Sonny still knows nothing of the sort.

"Ya, that sounds about right," Lux muttered, blushing a little and turning his head away. During the years before Lux had been sent off for training at the academy he had done his best to get out of going to any sort of gathering, and when he did go to one he would end up just following his dad or sister around. "Sorry if I don't remember you," Lux said, a little embarrassed, "I didn't really pay much attention at the events I went to."

*Shick* Spencer lets go of the charging handle and the mechanics slide a round into the chamber. He raises the gun in a soldier-like fashion. Very professional, very firm. A wall of flesh and bone. Once again, showing Spencer's background of tough, country marksmen. The safety clicks to semi-automatic. "Eh~, not really important." The trigger is pulled multiple times and a few rounds penetrate in close proximity on the target. Already, Sonny feels bad as it is more compact than his, despite him being a rifleman. After eight shots, Spencer smoothly clicks it to burst fire. The first round always hits right by where he tries to hit and the next two generally more left or right than up as the recoil is suppressed but not the natural amount of shock the body receives from firing a weapon before getting used to the changes that are happening while shooting multiple rounds at a time.
The magazine release is pressed and the mag falls out. Spencer then pulls back and forth on the charging handle while looking into the shell release. "Clear." Sonny slowly takes the gun and gives it to Lux with a face on that says, "Here, you can haz dis... ;~;"
Spencer turns to the controls for the target and starts bringing it forward after picking up the empty rifle magazine. "I really like both of your weapons, man! Your shield too, Sonny!" Sonny looks depressed still.
"I'll stick with Luna..."

"Ya, I thought both of your weapons were interesting as well," Lux said to Spencer and Sonny as he took Red Dawn back and but it in its holster. "Actually, I think they may have given me some ideas for some of the designs I've been working on."

Lux stood there quietly, unsure of what to say next. Doing his best not to overreact while trying to think of something to say, Lux saw something out of the corner of his eye, light reflecting off the the metal top of a parasol. Turning his head to look at the source, Lux saw a girl with long blonde hair walking towards him and waiving, twisting the parasol in her left hand as she did so.

"Hi Lux," Liz said as she approached him before looking and seeing Sonny and Spencer."Oh, my apologies, I didn't mean to interrupted," Liz said in a calm and graceful manor to the two men.

Spencer's walks up to the target but is distracted by a new voice. A girl's voice. His head quickly turns to the left and then back to forward, using his peripheral vision to inspect in a small instant. A fair-looking lady... Spencer's leg kicks back at Sonny's behind and pushes him toward the girl more. Go gedd'er! Sonny knows what Spencer means by the kick and mentally responds accordingly. B-but I can't flirt with someone! I'm bad at it and I'll just look stupid, like I always do! Spencer, being the detective, knows Sonny enough to know he would think something like that so he mentally responds accordingly to Sonny's likely response. Jus' do it, dude. Sonny, already knowing that he would not hear the end of it if he did not do what Spencer implied for him to do thinks to himself a response to Spencer's side of the silent argument of probable answers. ...Ugh...FI~~~NE. Sonny reaches back and rubs the hair on the back of his head while nervously smiling.
"Oh, that's fine! W-we weren't really doing too much anyway. Just trying out each other's weapons." Sonny, on normal occasions would be perfectly fine talking to this girl, but the fact that Spencer practically forced him to look at her in a romantic way has turned him into a nervous wreck.
Meanwhile, Spencer checks out the beowolf picture-target to find its head completely gone from the picture and its heart area barely holding on. A few shots from Sonny form a ring group around the two holes.
