PostSubject: Shen Lao Tzu   Sun Mar 09, 2014 6:16 pm

CHARACTER

Name: Shen Lao Tzu

Age: 20 (Twenty-fourth day of the second month)

Gender: Male

Symbol:
Spoiler:

Occupation: Wanderer, philosopher, and 1st year student

Appearance:
Spoiler:

A fairly tall individual at 6'5 ft. Has black hair with blue tint highlights. Wears square framed glasses and light arm guards. Clothing made of highly durable but light material.

History:
Spoiler:

Personality: His appearance puts him off as cold and stern, keeping a cool demeanor and emotionless visage, but he shows a very kind and gentle side at times. He follows a self imposed code of Bushido or gentleman's chivalry. He's a hard worker when needed but when not he is laid back and relaxed. He has a habit of speaking philosophical thoughts.

Strength:

*Martial Arts Master: Trained well in multiple martial art teachings, he can adapt his fighting style to fit most situations. Adept at speed and agility as well as swift motion, he prefers a quick and clean fight rather then anything drawn out.

*Poison immunity: After consuming small but gradually growing dosage of poison from mushroom, his body had grown an immunity to the deadliest poisons.

*Double Jointed: His joints and movements are a lot less restricted then most people, able to bend his body a lot more easily in multiple directions like a caterpillar, although there are limits.

*Jack of all trades: Trained well in the usage of both aura techniques and dust usage, Lao Tzu is able to utilize both along with his martial arts easily.

*High aura reservoir: Born with a high amount of aura.

Weakness:

*Too spread out: There is an old phrase that goes, "I fear the man who practiced one kick a thousand times rather then the man who practice a thousand kicks only once." While the diversity in Lao Tzu's skills is good for adaptability, he is not particularly strong in one area. Though his most adept ability is his aura style martial art abilities, he is not a complete master nor he is in any other of his abilities.

*Hiding a tree in a forest: When facing a single opponent it is easy for him to sense the killing intent in his or her strike but when facing multiple opponents he is unable to tell one from another making his ability relatively useless.

*Unwilling to kill: When facing anything other then a grimm, he has a hard time bringing himself to kill anyone. He needs to be pushed to a severe point before he is willing to land a fatal blow.

*Bad aim: Not well trained in firearm usage, he has a hard time landing a bullet. Although he has an easier time hitting large or closer average sized targets, his precision is relatively low so he prefers the use of his melee weaponry.

Semblance: Lucid Dream: The ability to extend his aura as a solid force from any part of his body, giving it shape through imagination. While in this state, his aura has the durability of refined steel. He can also retract any of these constructs of aura back into his body. The danger of this semblance is that if a force was applied to any extension of his aura is strong enough to break common steel, then that entire construct of aura breaks and Lao Tzu's aura levels are depleted by an amount equivalent to the broken aura construct as well as an extra small amount.

The constructs of aura must remain attached to his body. The user cannot release his aura as a projectile. Lucid Dream makes his aura an extension of Lao Tzu, meaning any strike that breaks his aura will be like a direct shock to his nervous system.

Lucid dreams has its limits in the forms it can take, categorized as several different base moves. Each base move has a set time limit upon use in which all constructs are retracted back and the base skill requires a cool down rate before being able to be used again. Lao Tzu is generally only able to make the following:

*Seven Blades: Lao Tzu can create the shape of seven different types of blades (not all at once); tiger hook swords, talwar swords, double edged straight swords, katana blades, rapier blades, buster blades, and falchion blades. Blade lengths can vary depending on aura output. The skill can be used continuously for 1.5 minutes upon activation and will then have a 30 second cool down period.

*Chain of Heaven: Chains of aura released from his body. The chains need to be moved manually and are used as chain whips or restrictions on enemy targets. Chain can remain out for 1 minute and will have a 1 minute cool down period afterwards.

*Silk web: Thin strings of aura Lau Tzu usually extends from his fingers. They are used to ensnare enemies and incapacitate them, although they have to be moved around manually. Strings are thin and sharp so if pulled hard enough it can cut, although moving them around is a lot more difficult then the chains. Skill can last for 2 minutes and will have a four minute wait period before it can be used again.

*The great pillars: Lao Tzu can extend  his aura into a solid pillar or a pole of much thinner width to use as a blunt weapon. Skill can be used for up to 45 seconds and will have a 1 minute cool down period.

*Great Wall of Shen: A flat plate of aura used to deflect projectile attacks and melee strikes. The plate can be lengthened or widen to any rectangular shape. Skill can be used continuously for 4 minutes and will have a 1 minute wait period.

*Imperial Fortress: A thick layer of aura completely surrounding Shen's body. Long spikes extend from the soles of his feet to dig into the ground and anchor him. Unlike the other skills, the aura in this construct is as dense as titanium plates. This skill is used to protect Lao Tzu for a period of thirty seconds, although user is unable to move during this time. Skill has a fifteen minute cool down period.

*Kaiser Fist and God Step: Lao Tzu can shape the form of arms or legs. Usually he does this to cover his fists or legs to give more power to his kicks and punches. Lao Tzu can also create solid limbs of aura to extend from other parts of his body, though they are a bit awkward to control properly. This is one of Lao Tzu's more favored techniques as the cool down time is fairly short. Skill can be used continuously for five minutes and will require a fifteen second cool down.

*The Caterpillar: Lao Tzu can shape his aura into the shape of a large caterpillar. Admittedly this is mostly for show and is not much different in combat use as the Kaiser Fist and God Step. It is usable for a full twenty seconds and will have a fifteen second cooldown.

*Aura Giant: Lucid Dream's strongest form is one of an aura avatar, a humanoid armor of aura that surrounds Lao Tzu protectively and moves the same way he moves. The aura giant at its maximum height stands twenty-five feet high (roughly the size of a two story house). This is if Lao Tzu extends his entire aura amount for Lucid dream meaning if any force strong enough to break steel hits the giant, his aura levels fall to critical levels and he is unable to fight further. In this form where Lao Tzu is surrounded in his aura, the giant avatar would move along with his motions, but moving inside of his own aura is like trying to fight underwater and his movements are greatly slowed and his strength is relatively the same, although the density and size of his strikes makes it seem like he's stronger and does more damage. Skill can be used continuously for thirty minutes and will have a two hour cool down time.

Miscellaneous Abilities:

*Dream State: A martial art ability and state of mind where the user is mentally asleep but his body remains active. The mental limiters are inactive at this state and the user's absolute full strength is released. During this state, one's mental state becomes wild and berserk. His senses are clouded and is unable to make intelligent actions. A sudden and large enough shock of pain can release one from the dream state although aura passively protects user from minor hits. Pushing past bodily limits, while in this state the user's body slowly breaks down to the point of life endangerment. The after effects leaves the user unable to move temporarily so it is used scarcely and as a last resort. Lao Tzu's body can last twenty minutes during this state before he is completely incapacitated.

*Lucid Dream State: A combination of Dream State while using the Aura Giant. User is more protected from pain while inside the aura giant and movement is more normal. The weaknesses of Lucid Dream are still applied. Dangers of Dream State are also present. During Dream State, user does not possess the mental ability to use semblance so one must already be using the aura giant to achieve this.

*Acrobatic training: Trained in acrobatic arts as well as martial arts, allowing him the ability to make complex maneuvers and high jumps/flips.

WEAPON

Name: Rakshasa

Primary Form:
Spoiler:

A blade attached to a chain. Hidden up Lao Tzu's sleeve. Technically a melee weapon, Lao Tzu can use this on far away enemies more easily, although its nowhere near as fast as a bullet. A mechanism attached to Lao Tzu's arm can automatically retract the chain.

Secondary Form:
Spoiler:

A three pronged kunai with a chain. Due to shape it is not a swiftly thrown through the air as the first form.

WEAPON #2

Name: Zuǒcè & Yòubiān (Left side and Right side)

Primary Form:
Spoiler:

Hidden within Lao Tzu's left and right sleeves. Utilizes steel core bullets. A bullet speed of 300 mph and does heavy impact damage. The characters engraved on the gun barrels read "Everything is a dream."

Secondary Form:
Spoiler:

For more close range and defensive battles, the blades rotate back to become a pair of bladed tonfas.

Tertiary Form:/b]
Spoiler:

The barrels attach to each other front to back and the barrel of the gun a the front slides back to reveal the barrel of a shotgun. Shoots spread shots in order to cover a wider area but range  is relatively minimal.

WEAPON #3

Name: Mèng

Primary Form:
Spoiler:

A unique weapon utilizing dust technology. Contains a revolving 7 chamber containing seven forms of dust.

Fire dust: Can generate flames.

Ice dust: Can freeze air to create ice.

Wind dust: Can generate high winds.

Water dust: Can generate clear water.

Energy dust: Can generate electrical currents and lightning.

Medical dust: Transfers energy to stem cells to quicken flesh and muscle tissue regeneration to hasten healing while numbing the nerve cells around any pained area in order to relieve pain. This can be used to heal wounds although it can't repair damaged organs or bones at a productive rate.

Water and tobacco: Just some tobacco heated up at the bottom of its chamber and filtered through some cooling water and given a nice smell. It's relaxing and has a pleasant smells like mint tea leaves.

The dust used is pumped up the pot and through a series of mechanisms is sterilized and turned into a none lethal gaseous form that travels up the valve into the pipe. While inside the body, it remains in a harmless gaseous form, but when blown out, after making contact with oxygen gas, the dust will turn to its appropriate form of either fire, water, etc, with exception to the medical dust which enters the body harmlessly to fulfill its purpose.

Shen Lao Tsu has also learned to combine his semblance with Meng to have the dust smoke travel across his body through aura channels and release the smoke through the pores of his body or out of extensions of his aura. Though as strange as the process sounds on its own, Lao Tzu can make many surprising attacks when his kicks or punches are suddenly releasing fire and he starts swinging around flaming blades from his knuckles.

The hookah is controlled through voice recognition through a series of foreign words and phrases in order to have the right dust properly pumped up the valve as well as a controlled amount for smaller or bigger results.

The strongest attack from the hookah is a combination of fire and energy dust mixed together in the mechanism while Lao Tzu applies a large amount of his aura into Meng and the aura is combined with the dust energy before breathed in as smoke. Once released, the dust and aura fusion turns into a highly concentrate burst of plasma energy that will explode upon impact. Like the other dust attacks, the attack can be increased in volume through a series of phrases. This attack can be used in three different sizes. The smallest burst which generates bursts of plasma energy about the size of a bowling ball requires Lao Tzu to sacrifice 10% of his aura. The next size is about the size of a yoga ball requires Lao Tzu to sacrifice 25% of his aura. The largest and most powerful which is released as in a powerful stream requires 50% of Lao Tzu's aura.

History: Meng was a unique invention forged from the dust scholars of the Shen Kingdom. Shen commissioned this weapon and keeps it hanging from his waist. Rakshasa, named after the evil spirits of Buddhist belief, belonged to his brother but Lao Tzu took it from him when he left his home. Zuǒcè & Yòubiān were taken from the imperial armory.

I'm going to have to say no to the semblance. It is simply too broad in what it can do, as well as having next to no downsides or limiting factors. In addition, although two of the miscellaneous abilities are somewhat related, but separate from, the semblance they are considered to be a second semblance. You could add them to the semblance, but then you are only making the previous issue worse.

Okay, fair enough. So I changed the semblance so that the forms it can take are even more limited then before and even got rid of one altogether. Under miscellaneous abilities, I put a time limit on his berserker state and made it so that if he uses it he would be pretty much done for afterwards if he doesn't win within the time frame. I also got rid of the sensing ability. I'm not sure if you were referring to the high jumps thing and I suppose I worded it weirdly, but by it I meant that he had acrobatic training, not a supernatural ability.

So going over the semblance multiple times I think the issue that I am having isn't with the semblance in and of itself, but a combination of semblance and weapons. I know he is someone who is supposed to be have a wide array of skills available to him, but is not experienced or specialized enough to really use any of them particularly well. The skill set available to him do not sound like those of someone who learned one, practiced a few times, and moved on to the next. They feel refined. Which seems to undo the major balance related weakness that he has.

Alright, sorry for the wait. So taking your suggestion I edited all of the constructs available in the semblance to have a usage time limit and cool down period. Each one varies. Also, I changed the design of Meng and added an extra attack available to it which requires a heavy aura cost that I believe is fair in equivalence to the potential damage.

Okay, provided you hold to those limits, I can live with that. +1
