Blood for blood

Jacob stirred from his uneasy slumber. Haunting images of blood and ice jolted through his brain like the shocks from some unseen electrode. He jerked upright, drenched in cold sweat. His hand immediately flew to Jernulv's handle. But he couldn't cleave a dream in two, any more than he could change the past. He sighed and climbed out of bed, his teamates in the dorm with him snored, some of them at least.
"I need some air" the wolf thought aloud. He padded over to the door and opened it. He took a step through the door, his bare foot came into contact with something cold and metallic. He absently looked down. The Leering faceplate of a White Fang glared up at him. He stooped and picked it up, rolling it over in his hands, he inspected the back. In thin, jagged letters, the mask bore the words Blood for blood. Jacob's blood ran cold as he realized what the words entailed. The target that had been painted on his back over a decade ago, had just re-entered the cross hairs.

Kokkino watched as Jacob left the dorm buildings, standing on the corner roof of the abandoned dorm across from them with her hair flowing as the breeze blew it to the side. I wonder what has him up at this hour.

Jacob adjusted the strap on his kit bag.
'I should've known they'd find me this far south' he scolded himself 'if I can get to the ice fields I'll have more of a chance' he stopped in his tracks as the wind changed direction, carrying with it an unfamilliar smell, human, yet not. He drew his axe and shifted it into a shotgun
"Show yourself" he snarled.

Stepping off the corner, Kokkino lands with a quiet thump twenty feet away before she slowly walks towards him, her footsteps nearly silent. "What keeps you up at this time?"

Jacob lowered the weapon
"It's not your concern" he grunted, slotting Jernulv back into its holster and turning to continue his journey.

Tilting her head, a glimmer of curiosity enters Kokkino's visible eye. "But I wish to help. Do you not want help?"

"You can't help me" he grunted "no one can" he began to walk again, leaving the bandaged girl behind, just beyond the reach of his peripheries.

Quickly calculating, Kokkino takes off at a running start, jumping at the wall and running along it before she launches herself, landing in a roll so she's standing in front of Jacob. "I insist. What can I assist with?"

Jacob stopped, his face tightened into a furious glare
"I don't have time for this!" he growled "now MOVE!" the final word was accompanied by a jolt forwards, as the boy bared his pointed teeth in a feral bark.

Flinching backwards, Kokkino's single visible eye widens as she does a backspring to keep from falling over.

Jacob took the opportunity to storm past her, his eyes fixed on the gates to Beacon, the exit. Something sharp slammed into his shoulder. He grunted before yanking the small barb free. He stared at the small blow dart like implement. Then his vision began to blur and his limbs began to feel heavy
"Too late" he grunted. He fell to one knee, fighting back the potent cocktail of drugs that were now flooding his system. Then, through the haze, he saw them. Clad in black, with chain wrapped arms, the White Fang Hunters, their faces hidden behind snarling animal deathmasks.

Kokkino immediately moved into action, swiftly and fluidly drawing Twin Riptides, pulling the triggers and extending the whipblades. Red dust surges through them, igniting into a blaze as she darts across the ground.

Jacob forced himself to his feet and pulled Jernulv into his grip, twisting the haft, the blade shimmered with a thin layer of ice
"Run" Jacob ordered, turning his head to Kokkino "now!" The black clad figures were beginning to close in. Jacob bared his teeth and tried to blink away the distortions in his vision.

Kokkino jumps towards a wall and uses it as a springboard, launching herself high into the air. She pivots in the air, bringing herself into a spin so that her blades look akin to a sawblade while they're spinning around her.

Jacob lunged forwards, swinging Jernulv towards the White Fang Hunters. One jumped backwards, easily able to avoid the clumsy blow
"Too afraid to face me in a fair fight" Jacob sneered. The men spread out, surrounding him, seemingly ignoring Kokkino as she spun her whip-like blades.

The whipblades collide with the first Fang hunter, the blades of fire digging into him as Kokkino uses her momentum to break his neck with a well placed kick. She flicks her blades and they unwrap from the Fang, blood flying as they tear into the skin.

Using Kokkino's attack as a distraction, Jacob charged forwards, swinging his mighty axe with both hands, cleaving the first Hunter clean in two, before splitting a second, shoulder to groin. The cold edge of a knife ran across the wolf's back, scoring a deep cut, and tearing a gash in his jacket. More enraged that injured Jacob turned and bludgeoned the man's head in with the axe' handle.

As Kokkino goes to engage a second Fang hunter, a blade catches the bandages across her face, tearing them. She immediately closes her right eye, her left eye blazing with fury as she lets out a howling battlecry, delivering a hurricane of attacks.

A jolt of pain leapt across Jacob's chest and he fell to his knees, grimacing in pain. One of the Hunters darted over and made a move as if to grab him. Jacob's hand shot upwards and seized the man by the neck, with a grip like iron
"You got the dosage wrong" he snarled. With a feral roar he lifted the man over his head with both hands, before slamming the Fang down on his knee, a sickening snap signaled the shattering of the Hunter's spine. The others began to disperse, vanishing into the shadows. They were retreating, but the battle was far from over.

The blademaster's heavy breathing slows as she calms herself, standing in a fluid stance, releasing the triggers on her swords. The segments clack back together and two broken crystals eject from the handles. Kokkino quickly slots two new crystals into the handles and locks them closed. "Jacob, are you fit for battle?"

"I'm fine" Jacob snapped, shaking off another bout of dizziness. Keeping Jernulv in hand he began to stagger towards the academy's gates, still trying to forge a path to the North.

Quietly stepping after him, Kokkino clips her blades onto her back bandages once more. "Do you want something for the tranquilizer?"

"I'm fine!" Jacob barked, through gritted teeth. He turned his furious expression on Kokkino "I told you to leave" he snarled "this isn't your fight."

The blademaster stares back at him with her piercing gaze, the shuriken imprinted iris blazing with rage. "The White Fang took the only man I considered family." She starts walking towards Jacob, her eye narrowing. "And you DARE to tell me this isn't my fight!?" Kokkino jabs a bandaged finger into his chest. "THEY are the reason I have to wear layers of bandages, and why I have an artificial voice box! It's because of them that I'm always alone! You don't have the right to tell me this isn't my fight."

Jacob drew up to his full height, glaring down at the girl
"They're after my head, not yours. Don't think you're the only one that hungers for White Fang blood, but this fight isn't yours, this burden is mine and mine alone. As head of my Clan and sole bearer of the Reaver name" Jacob moved past her, barging her with his shoulder as he passed "for your own safety, leave."
