While Rider and Mirai were out, the living room had been cleared and two mattresses were dragged out and Ai had set out some bedding. The pink haired assistant was standing patiently waiting for them. When they entered, she nodded to White.

"Thank you for escorting Mirai back," Ai murmured. "You may return to your duties."

"It was my pleasure, I thought it great," White replied with a small bow. "Oh look at the time! I'm late!"

The white rabbit scurried off, running on its big, floppy feet.

"I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date! No time to stay or chat anymore. I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!"

"You must be tired," Ai said to Mirai. "Allow me to show you to your bed."

Ai led Mirai away from the living room and down a hallway. A door waited at the end that the lizard faunus pushed opened without pause. The room's walls were lined with blueprints and calculations like wall paper. There were even equations and formulas written on the floor with chalk.

"I'm sorry it's a little messy," Ai apologized. "He did not clean since yesterday."

There were two beds in the room. Ai pointed at one silently indicating that it will be Mirai's. On the other bed, Alice was lying, wrapping the blankets around her like a snug little caterpillar. The little girl who resembled an even younger version of Mirai slept soundly on the bed on the opposite wall of the vacant bed.

"It's fine," Mirai said dully. "And thank you for letting us stay despite the unexpected visit."

Rayden hadn't brought much luggage because they entered the cave, but Mirai had salvaged for herself her nightdress and a book. She changed hastily into her long nightgown and let her hair drape loosely behind her. She wouldn't be able to sleep, that was certain, so she instead began reading a faded leather book, the image of a thorny yellow rose embedded into the cover. It was a story she had read over and over again but she never got tired of. She sat there, resting on a pillow and stared at the words, waiting for night to be over even if dawn was hours away.

"What are you reading?" a small, innocent voice spoke in midst of the silence.

Alice's eyes were open, though lay on the bed on her side, staring straight at Mirai with curiosity.

Mirai turned to Alice and tried to smile, though she failed.

"It's called the Story of Evil," Mirai said as she turned to face Alice.

She looked at the little girl for a while. She did look like her, but Mirai could see a glaring difference. Mirai scooted to the edge of the bed.

"It's one of my favorite stories, but there are some sad parts and the ending isn't the happiest...it's about a princess...and her servant."

She looked at Alice hesitantly.

"Would you like to hear it?"

Mirai flipped the pages to the beginning of the book and began reading.

Long ago there was a beautiful kingdom rich with gold known as the Yellow Kingdom. The King was a kind man and the queen a goodhearted woman. They had two children. A pair of twins, a girl and a boy who loved each other very much. One day, the kingdom broke out into war with a neighboring country and the King and Queen fell, leaving the poor children behind. But only one of them could rule. The adults decided to make the girl the princess and the boy her servant.

Because of all the attention given to her, the girl's pride grew and by fourteen years old she became the most wicked ruler in all the four kingdoms. She increased taxes so she could have more money and the villagers began to starve. She executed those who spoke against her. Even the Blue Prince that had been betrothed to her disliked her for her cruel ways. It wasn't long before they began calling her the Daughter of Evil and everyone feared and hated her. Everyone except one person.

While the girl turned cruel and mean, her brother had been by her side serving her. He loved her dearly and fulfilled her every single desire. He still saw her as his sweet, cute sister. When she asked him to bake brioche, he would do it perfectly. When she needed to be dressed, he would help her try a hundred dresses without once losing his temper. When she needed someone executed, he would do it for her. He was known as the Servant of Evil. Though he knew the wrong the princess did to the world, he did everything she told him to simply because he loved her and because he always wanted her to smile.

One day, the princess received a letter of rejection from the Prince of Blue, stating he had fallen in love with a girl from the Green Kingdom. In pure rage and jealousy, the little princess had every green-haired woman killed and any who opposed along with them. The war had been bloody, but the unexpected attack had left the Daughter of Evil the winner. She had once again gotten what she wanted.

Finally, the people had enough. Led by a woman whose husband the princess had executed, and supported by the Blue Kingdom whose prince swore revenge for the girl he loved, the citizens of the yellow kingdom revolted against her. Since her troops were worn from the war, it had been easy enough and they soon entered the palace.

The princess was angry and scared, but her brother took her aside to reassure her.

"Take my clothes and run away from here as fast as you can."

Despite her protests, the servant finally had her changed into his serving clothes and by the time the people arrived, he had disguised himself as the princess, no one being able to tell the difference because they were twins.

The next day, at three o'clock in the afternoon, the princess in disguise watched her brother executed in her behalf and it was only then that she realized how badly she had sinned.

All of her life, she had been proud and cruel, ruthlessly trying to get everything she wanted but still never satisfied. She had never realized the most precious thing to her, her brother, had always been there. And the moment she lost him, she was filled with extreme sorrow.

She moved to another country and stood by the docks in the sunset. She knew of a certain legend and, following it, she put a wish into a glass bottle and threw it out to sea while singing how she regretted everything she had done but could now do nothing about it. Her wish was so that she could be reunited with her brother once again.

They say she went there every day after working hard as a waitress. She went there until she finally died of heartbreak, her soul lifted into heaven because she had learned her lesson and having repented.

They also say that at sunset on those docks, if you look close enough, you'll see two children sitting at the very edge. A pair of twins who looked like they loved each other more than anything in the entire world.

Mirai lifted her head from the book to look at Alice.

"The End," she said quietly. She waited for Alice's response, but her eyes shifted to the sides. "I'm sorry it's not the best story I have for bedtime. I should pick something happier..."

She hovered back to suitcase, trying to find something better while she waited for Alice's reaction.

Without Mirai ever noticing, little Alice had crept up and sat down next to her. When Mirai had turned to get to her suitcase, there Alice was right next to her, looking at her with curious eyes.

"I liked it," she said, looking up at the girl before her. "It's sort of sad but I like it."

The little girl paused for some time as if trying to think. "Hey, Onee san," the young golden haired girl looked up at Mirai, "What is it like to love someone?"

As Alice asked the question, Mirai felt herself weaken. She placed the Story of Evil on her lap and then put her hands over it, gripping it tightly. Her eyes drifted, staring aimlessly at the walls full of Rider's scribbles and blueprints.

"I..." her voice trailed off. Her eyes then dropped to the yellow rose on the book's cover.

Her grip on the book tightened as she stared at it. She recalled a cliff with covered with green grass, a tree with yellow flowers shading the very edge, little spots of sunlight filtering through leaves as two children rested there.

What are we having for snack today?

Brioche, as always.

Why do you always bake brioche?

It makes you smile, of course. That's why.

Mirai turned to Alice and looked at her sadly, trying to smile. The more she looked at Alice, the more she saw the girl and the boy that had once sat at the shade of that tree with yellow flowers. She put a hand on her head affectionately.

"That's a very tough question," she told Alice with a sad laugh. "Even for a smart girl like me."

She looked back to the cover of the book. "But perhaps...perhaps loving someone is the feeling of being connected in a special way," she said. "No matter how far apart those two people are physically, they're still...with each other. And despite suffering and sorrow and darkness, they hope because they have one another."

Mirai sighed.

"That's what I think it's like," Mirai said. "I...I've forgotten already, see? It's hard to...remember. You must know a bit, though, don't you? You love Rider after all and he must love you."

"Well..." Alice trailed off in thought, "Yes. I love Rider a lot! But I wanted to know if what I feel really is love."

Alice smiled brightly. "Now that you told me, I'm sure it's love now!" Alice said cheerfully. "Hey, hey, nee chan! Do you love Rider too?"

Mirai was rather taken aback by the question. But she was quick to answer.

"I can't love Rider," she said plainly. She looked down to her lap. "Though he's very deserving of love. I...I can't love anybody."

Upon hearing the words, Mirai lowered her head, her hand once again going to the pendant. She pulled it out and showed Alice the picture of the boy.

"This is Will," Mirai said, her voice calm and even. "Yes. He was the boy in the story. And I did love him. But...because he loved me...he had to go away. Far, far away where I can maybe never reach him. Because of that, I cannot love anyone else. I don't want anyone to be taken away anymore. I don't want anyone hurt. I won't forgive myself if that happened to Rider, my friends..and even to you. I loved Will. But I can love no more. It's the payment I have to make for making him suffer."

She knew Alice was a child. She knew perhaps it wouldn't make any sense. But she told her all the same, because she needed to let someone know this truth of hers.

Alice suddenly wrapped her arms around Mirai, hugging her firmly and strongly, nuzzling her little head against Mirai's chest.

"I like you nee chan," Alice said, "You're just like Rider and whenever he was sad, I hug him like this to make him feel better!"

Mirai lifted her arms to wrap the little girl in an embrace in return. She pressed her close against her.

Perhaps you are me in another life... Mirai thought to herself as she hugged the girl, feeling the need to cherish the moment. A happy girl, an innocent one...a girl whose given the opportunity to love without the worry of that being taken away from her...

"I like you, too, very much, Alice," Mirai said at last, stroking the girl's golden hair. "Please do me a favor, is that alright? Please love Rider. I'm sure it makes him the happiest person in the world."

With that, she finally let go and smiled a small smile.

"It's getting late, little one," Mirai said affectionately. "I think it's time we both went to bed."

As the two went to bed, Alice going back to her own on the other side of the room while Mirai tucked herself in hers, as if by magic all of the lights in the house turned off by themselves, leaving the night completely silent and still.

The hours ticked by and soon it was midnight. All was silent and peaceful. The sounds of light, steady footsteps went through the house. The door to Rider's room opened and Ai wheeled the rabbit faunus in, his eyes half-closed and his head bobbing as he struggled to stay awake.

"How... how is... how is a raven... like a writing desk...." Rider mumbled sheepishly. "I... I have no idea..."

"You always overwork yourself sir," Ai sighed. "Try not to disturb the others. Mirai is sleeping in your bed. You can rest with Alice in hers."

"Okay... thanks Ai," Rider mumbled tiredly as the assistant left him and closed the door silently. The faunus, still half asleep, wheeled himself towards the bed where he saw Alice sleeping soundly. By the time he reached it he was more or less three quarters asleep at that point.

Performing an effort he neglected back at Beacon, Rider placed his hands on the bed and slowly pulled himself off his chair and onto the bed, gradually sneaking himself under the sheets. The struggle was so much that by the time he pulled himself onto the bed, he was already asleep, small, soft snores escaping through his nose while his arms subconsciously wrapped around Mirai.

"Tick tock goes the clock..." Rider mumbled in his sleep as his hold on Mirai tightened. "Alice... you smell nice..."

<---- insert Mirai's reaction here.--->

Something suddenly moved in the bed, crawling its way up and squeezed itself between Rider and Mirai. Alice's little head popped out, a smile on her face as she snuggled herself between the two. Before Mirai could stop her, Alice's eyes closed and her soft breathing indicated that she was long done counting sheep.

Mirai usually had a hard time sleeping but now her eyes were falling down heavily. By the time the lights were out, she was already half-dreaming. Mirai was no longer in a small bed in a small house. She was a girl of twelve again and she was roaming through the west wing of the family manor. She made her way to the servant's quarters in a long nightgown and to Will's room which was unlocked.

What's the matter, Mira? Will said. He was just about to go to bed.

I had a nightmare... she told him. Can...can I sleep here?

Will smiled genuinely and gave her a small bow. Mirai walked over to the bed as he tucked her in. She moved a bit so there would be space for the two of them and she smiled brightly.

Thank you, Will.

Anything for you, my lady.

Around this time, Will would slip in and wrap his arms around her as he did every time she came here with nightmares. In her dream, Mirai also closed her eyes and she waited for Will to say goodnight.

"Alice...you smell nice..." Rider's voice came.

Mirai's eyes clapped open and she was face to face with the rabbit faunus. Her mouth opened but she couldn't scream. Every part of her turned to stone and her face turned bright red.

"W-w-w-w-w-w-wha~"

Before she could finish, Alice slipped in between her and Rider and now they were all snuggled nicely on the bed. Mirai never felt so flustered. She tried to break free but saw that she couldn't. Her head sank low into the pillow. She felt her sleepiness kicking in again.

"Rider...you're gonna pay for this..." she said sleepily before she drifted off reluctantly.

As morning rose, the tiniest ray of sunlight seeped through small cracks between the curtains. Everybody was sleeping soundly and peacefully. The door opened to Rider's room and Ai stepped in, her eyes immediately going over to Alice's bed. But when she saw it was completely vacant, she drifted her gaze towards the other bed where she saw the three of them sleeping together like two parents sleeping with their daughter. Ai's eyebrow twitched and she silently shuffled over towards the bed.Taking the sheet off Rider leaving Alice and Mirai tucked in, she lifted up he boss like nothing placed him back on his wheelchair, wheeling him out of the room silently. She shut the door behind him and continued wheeling the sleeping faunus into the kitchen where she shut the door behind them.

Several seconds passed when a sharp slap sounded from the kitchen.

"OW! WAH!?? WHAT DID I DO???!!"

Mirai opened her eyes upon hearing Rider yelp. Dazed, she looked around the room, now filled with small sunlight.

"I had the weirdest dream..." she muttered to herself.

It was only then that she realized Alice was there next to her, snuggled up and warm. For a minute she didn't understand why the girl was there. Had she wandered to her bed in the middle of the night? Had her story perhaps caused nightmares and she wanted company? It was then that she sat straight up remembering the night's events. Her face turned bright red and she tucked Alice in gently before stomping out the door. She marched towards the kitchen, her eyes glaring and she came face to face with Ai and Rider. She wanted to yell or scream or call Rider a woman violator, but found out she couldn't. Instead, she let out a small whimper and then her head dropped.

"Last night didn't happen," she said stiffly. She then about-faced and walked back towards her room, her eyes staring hard at the floor.

Caster sat outside of Mirai's room, leaning against the wall and holding the dust crystal he had recieved the previous day near his eye. He hardly noticed Mirai approaching, looking surprised as he lowered it and smiled a bit.

"Out for a morning stroll, milady?" he teased, knocking his knuckles against the door. "I thought you were still asleep when I came to check on you so I was waiting for you to get up." Caster set the crystal in his jacket pocket and smiled. "How are you feeling?"

Mirai had seen Caster midway to her room, her face still bright red and her line drawn in a zigzag. When asked how she was feeling, Mirai darted her eyes, her face becoming an even deeper red color.

"I-I'm fine," she murmured. "Excuse me for a minute. I must change.

She went back inside the room to change into another dress, the last dress she had left with her luggage. Changing had calmed her down a bit, and when she came out in a black maiden ensemble. She stretched her arms as she left the room, the effects of her, Rider and Alice cramped up in bed finally taking its toll on her muscles.

"Ah, yes, morning, Caster," Mirai said with her usual demeanor. "No, I'm not going on a stroll. How did you and Rayden sleep last night? Well? Anyways, we should leave soon. I'm sure we've been a bother enough."

She linked arms with Caster, something out of habit now, and back to the where Ai and Rider were. She dared not face the rabbit faunus, her cheeks immediately turning red upon recalling last night, but she did face Ai.

"Thank you again for letting us stay on such short notice," Mirai said. "However, we should be leaving soon. I'm sure we've been enough of a bother."

"Why is everybody mad at me today??" Rider is yelling, still rubbing the red mark on his cheek. When Mirai came, towing Caster Rider looked at them awkwardly for a moment. "Uh, yes... I'm sure you have better things to do then be here-"

"Noooo!" a childish whine came from behind. Running towards them while still in her night gown, Alice ran up behind Mirai and hugged her waste tightly. "Please don't go! You haven't even seen the whole town yet! Just one more day please~"

Mirai was just about to bob her head to confirm they'd be leaving, but she was taken aback by Alice.

"W-well, we can't really..." Mirai said unsurely, her eyes shifting from Ai to Alice as if she didn't know what to do. "I mean...we've been a bother enough and all...you couldn't possibly want us around, do you?"

In fact, we're not even supposed to know about this place anyways... Mirai thought.

Caster looked between Alice and Mirai, raising an eyebrow. Something still felt off about the two, even how quickly Alice attached herself to Mirai seemed a bit odd, but nothing he was really concerned about. If anything the two's emotional conditions worried him more than anything.

His free hand patted Mirai's shoulder as he crouched down, giving her reassuring glance. Something was bother he but Caster new better than to pressure her for information. If Mirai wanted to talk about it she would tel him.

"How about this?" Caster smiled warmly at Alice, gently rubbing her upper back. "You can show us around, we will eat breakfast, then we promise to visit again sometime. On a better note. I'm still not over the giant bunny death mech." He teased.

"What do you mean? Fluffy is perfectly nice," Alice pouted, still refusing to let go of Mirai. "I don't any of you to go! You're the first people from outside the village to come here that weren't blown up."

"Come now Alice," Rider laughed awkwardly at the little girl, "Coming here must have been such a bother to them. I wouldn't want to trouble them any further. Let me make some breakfast. I hope you like eggs."

With everyone shooed out of the kitchen, Rider went to work doing his usual thing and the sound of sizzling butter and eggs already filled the air.

"You didn't hate coming here right?" Alice asked imploringly, looking up at Mirai. "Or... do you hate it here?"

Mirai looked at Alice affectionately and stroked her hair while trying her best to smile brightly.

"Of course I don't hate it here," Mirai reassured. She looked back to the kitchen, though, her smile fading and her eyes looking worried. "It's just that...well, I think it bothers Rider that we're here, that's all. We did come unexpectedly..."

"Bother?" Alice asked, tilting her head. "What do you mean? I've never seen Rider so happy."

Before Mirai could respond, Ai came out of the kitchen, balancing plates, silverware, and cups in a stack on one hand and used her other hand to gently push the others in the direction of the dining room.

"The master will be finished shortly so please get ready to eat," Ai stated as she nudged the others a bit forcibly like a busy mother.

Soon the dining room table was set was a variety of dishes. Stacks of chocolate chip pancakes and a gravy boat of syrup, a platter of scrambled eggs mixed with chicken sausages and green onions, two plates of biscuits and pork sausage patties, and a basket of fresh fruit, all adorned the table, steam rising from the fresh dishes.

"The biscuits are toasted up pre-made ones though," Rider sighed. "Sorry but I couldn't bake fresh ones in such a short amount of time. I hope you all enjoy."

"You promise to stay until I show you the village, right?" Alice asked everyone.

Mirai looked at the table sadly.

"It's absolutely fine," Mirai said not facing Rider. "It...it actually looks pretty nice. You...didn't need to do anything."

Mirai turned around to hug Alice reassuringly, feeling as if it was only right for her to give the little girl affection.

"If...if that's okay with Rider," Mirai said hesitantly.
