CHARACTERName: Rory Veiller
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Symbol: - Spoiler:
Occupation: Student at Signal Academy/ Part-time worker
Appearance: Rory is 5'4" with an average built for girls her age. She is known for her vibrant orange hair that hangs above her shoulders in a bob and her spiky bangs. She has dark blue eyes that turn gray when her semblance is activated. Due to her faunus heritage, Rory has two red wolf ears and sharp canine teeth. She has an abnormally small wolf's tail that hangs just above her skirt, but can also be tucked inside. Rory is usually seen in a "school girl" get up where she wears a yellow sweater vest over a white collared, short-sleeved blouse, a gray pleated skirt just above her knees and a maroon tie. She wears closed, brown leather school shoes and white stockings just below her knees. In combat, she wears a chest guard under her vest and pads for her knees and elbows. She also sports finger-less brown gloves.
Depending on the occasion, Rory likes to dress up and will wear things from a punk-rock motif to gothic lolita. Her trademark is the white bandage tied just below her right sleeve.
History: Rory comes from a simple faunus village at the borders of Vale that hasn't really caught up with modern technology. Their village leader believes that too many advances in technology will event be the fall of mankind and that is abuses the once more natural uses of Dust. The village grew up near a potential Dust source and had been keeping it from Vale's knowing for years. Rory, who yearned more in life than just simple farm living, took to wood cutting in order to get closer to the Grimm where she could train for combat. With dreams to become a Huntress, Rory knew that simple weaponry couldn't do.
At the age of ten, she'd go to Vale's busier areas to learn more about technology, not realizing that she had trailed followers. It wasn't long before they attracted the attention of Dust seekers. The village was torn apart and though most of the faunus were able to flee, some were taken captive and others executed. Rory was able to escape, but just barely. The shock of people hurting other people (faunus or not) shocked Rory so much that it made her mind repress the thought and see them as Grimm creatures. It became so profound that when stressed, she would start to see other people as Grimm creatures and go berserk.
Rory was eventually helped by a kind human family in the mountains that followed most of the practices her village had. Though given a calm atmosphere, Rory's view and aggression towards the Grimm remained and it was agreed that less exposure could eventually cure her mental illness. Despite this, Rory idolized her foster uncle, Zephry Veiller, a Huntsman and graduate of Beacon Academy. Reluctantly, he taught her the basics of training and told her his secret to fighting the Grimm: to think like the Grimm. Rory's most feared Grimm had been Beowolves but she soon learned how they acted and later induced minor symptoms of clinical lycanthropy (an ailment that made her believe she could transform into a wolf or Beowolf).
Before Zephyr could correct this, he was mysteriously killed and left behind money for education at Signal Academy and to live in Vale. Rory continues to pursue her dreams of becoming a Huntress.
- Spoiler:
In Zephyr Veiller's diary, he made a request for Rory to find his daughter, Liseran Dormirse, whom he feared would one day be in danger because of the semblance she inherited from him: the ability to see the future. Rory, feeling it's what she owes to her mentor, pursues this mission while in Vale only to find that Liseran Dormirse has left her home to attend Beacon Academy, furthering Rory's desire to go there someday as well.
Personality: Rory is an upbeat, optimist who enjoys being carefree and thrill-seeking. She likes to befriend people and has a childlike amiability. Like a regular teen, Rory likes to stay in touch with the latest trends from fashion to hobbies. Rory is also a person who can't rest, so she takes on multiple temporary jobs ranging from waitressing, event promotions, lifeguarding among other things. She's very protective of her friends and family, willing to put her life on the line for them and even for complete strangers.
She is, however, brash as she tends to act before thinking and lets her instincts decide for her. She's sensitive to criticism and is defensive. When bullied about her faunus heritage, she will physically attack the person either biting or scratching, something she cannot control.
Rory is mentally fragile because of childhood trauma and her literal absorption of Zephyr's "Be the Grimm" mantra. Though she isn't stressed by fighting and combat, issues such as those she care about being in danger, a seemingly unsolvable solution or reminders of her past will trigger hallucinations. While hallucinating, Rory will perceive that she is turning into a Grimm and see everyone as Grimm as well, attacking while not knowing if she's hurting an enemy or an ally. When woken from this state with no memory of it, Rory believes that she had "transformed" into a Beowolf and attacked intentionally, making her feel ashamed and distancing herself from others from days to weeks. Her clinical lycanthropy also influences her cravings for raw meat and canine-like behavior (wagging her tail, chewing on furniture, scratching the walls).
Despite the fear of hurting people, Rory continues to fight her "condition" and believes she can overcome it.
Strength: Because of her faunus heritage, Rory has above average speed and strength. She can travel long miles without being overfatigued while carrying her weapons with her (twin axes and a rifle). The best example of this is her ability to quickly leap from one tree to another and being able to cut down trees in single hacks. She also has a highly-alerted sense of smell and can quickly distinguish the presence of others, Grimm or food. Rory is good with close-quarter combat and melee attacks, with fast reflexes and increased power. She's also a proficient marksman and can hit targets from afar using her rifles.
Weakness: Rory doesn't have that much experience with Dust magic attacks and defends against them poorly. It's harder for her to dodge multiple long-raged attacks as well compared to those right in front of her. She also lacks in analyzing her opponents attacks and will fight without thinking. She relies heavily on her animal-like instincts, making her unfamiliar with more "formal" fighting skills. Her hallucinations, if triggered, can greatly damage battling in groups as she can harm not only her foes but also her allies. She will also fight based on animal instincts in this state and cannot comprehend fighting strategies if not pure attacking. She also has little defense and severe blows can lead to fatal damage.
Semblance: Foresight
Rory's semblance, Foresight, allows her to see things from far distances. When her aura is charged, she can see events happening as far as ten miles. However, when she's in this state, things at close distant become a blur and can make her vulnerable to attack.
WEAPONFirst WeaponName: Holzfallen (Cosmas and Damian)
Primary Form: Twin Axes
Holzfallen consists of two intricately designed axes, one double-edged (Cosmas) and the other with one large single edge (Damien). Both are made of sturdy metal and take on different designs. Cosmas is wide, but has thinner blades, and is designed to have a solar motif (it's handles being golden and in the center of its blade is the sun pattern). Damian, on the other hand, isn't as wide, but is relatively thick and is designed with a lunar motif (Black and silver handle with moon pattern on its blade).
Rory will use both axes at the same time to make a multiple complex of swings, but will shift to one depending on what is more needed (Cosmas for speedier attacks, Damian for more powerful attacks).
History: Holzfallen was a precious weapon in Rory's village, said to have belonged to the village founder, a skilled Grimm hunter. While Rory used to use ordinary axes when training, the Holzfallen came into her hands during the village raid when the village leader entrusted it to her. Despite supposedly being more than fifty years old, the weapons are in strangely good condition. Rory did, however, enhance and retouched Holzfallen's design in Signal Academy where students are taught to create customized weapons.
Second Weapon: Fusilier
Fusilier is a long, double-barreled rifle that uses Dust rounds. It is Rory's weapon of choice when enemies are too far for close combat. When using this, Rory needs a considerable amount of space as the shots are strong enough to cause recoil. An accurate shot to the head can kill a medium-sized Grimm (Beowolf or Ursa) with one hit while those dealt to the body may take more.
History: Fusilier was a weapon customized by Rory in Signal Academy by taking Zephyr Veiller's old rifle, which he himself used as a student. Rory tends to use this less as she is sentimentally more attached to it.
